FATHER Christmas is more likely to get a can of lager and a packet of crisps than a sherry and mince pie when he comes down the chimney in modern Britain.
Among the declining numbers who still leave out food and drink for santa, the choices are more likely to reflect today?s tastes for lager and junk food, a poll of 1,000 people reveals.
One in four homes leave beery cheer for him compared to just five per cent offering the more sophisticated tipple.
But at least it?s good lager ? four out of five said they would put out a premium brew.
The study, for shopping website Fatcheese.co.uk, says the food left on the hearth for Santa and his reindeer is more likely to be chocolate, crisps and biscuits.
Some 30 per cent leave chocolate for him but only 10 per cent offer a mince pie and five per cent provide crisps or biscuits, though five per cent also leave a gift of fruit.
Rudolph?s snacks are more traditional, says Fatcheese, with 35 per cent leaving out carrots, 10 per cent a sugar lump and a further 10 per cent a biscuit.
