The guys a *****, grade A dicknozzle.
Uncontent with filing down a drumstick with a cheesegrater and drawling in the background whilst recording the lot and trying to pass it off as "contemporary music." hes decided he feels the need to tell people the issues effecting 2010... in the New York Times no less.
For example...
Bandwith was only an "issue" several years ago, i can download an entire movie in as much time as it takes me to brew a coffee, back when bandwidth was an issue music too about the same time and yet people seemed to do it to record levels.
Take the newspaper industry, filesharing and people copying and pasting their material (like GMB
) are the least of their worries.
Newspapers have NEVER made any money from the covercharge, instead making up their profits from advertisers and classifieds.
Why pay a paper to get a classified when ebay, craigslist and gumtree offer far more instant services? why pay for a full sheet in the new york times for an exuberant fee when you can easily advertise online for next to nothing and hit a far wider readership?
Then theres the Music industry... I personaly know several local artists who are far from starving off their gig tickets and bootleg sales, the only reason theyre not wealthy beyond their wildest dreams is because currently the industry only wants artists who will record the same homogenized drivel to sell advertisements via radio play. Who needs to jump aboard that shitwaggon when theres a queue of aspiring xfactor plebs to fill the void?
Its interesting to note that of all the big name artists, none of them could get picked up by a major label nowadays to start their careers.
Piracy isnt to blame for this.
Then theres the shift to digital downloading of SINGLES, gone are the days where the industry can hook you in with one solid hit and fill an entire album with garbage (a friend of mine still moans about being burned by Babylon Zoo in the 90s
) so instead of gouging ?15 out of the average joe they get a quid...
Then the movie industry, has he even bothered to follow some basic research before opening his mouth? Box office ticket sales are at record highs.
Seems people are inclined to actualy go out and catch a movie rather than sit at home and ponder the sheer mindnumbing reality of the current political and economical realities whilst contemplating suicide.
He then goes on to charge the ISP's with the responsibility of fixing it all, with no forethough of just how technical and resource consuming a job that would be.
The article is mindnumbing in its complete lack of thought process, Bono should quit with his Bob Geldof shit and stick to producing the same old dire music before he actualy manages to do any real damage.
The ONLY reason piracy is focused on as an "issue" is because its the one thing that the respective industries need to change nothing to focus on.
It clearly cant be an outdated business or copyright model, that would take actual work and money to fix, lets blame the pirates, the government and ISPs can deal with those.
