Internet forums and Censorship

It's happening more and more without reason. Censorship. Whats happening to freedom of speech on, of all places internet forums?
You would expect censorship in the media. Tv, Newspapers etc but internet forums, the very place where freedom of speech would be guaranteed is becoming subdued in the least.

It's blatantly obviouse that if theres a "touchy" subject, then the plug is pulled before we're allowed to debate it.
WHY? as long as theres no racial abuse why can't we debate things?
I for one am getting bored. This is one of the friendliest , if not THE friendliest forum on the net. Let's not turn it into a boring timid no balls forum. Let the members have a say of what they feel regardless of the topic. That's what forums are supposed to be about. If OTT insults fly then thats where the mods should step in ,and then only.

mmm i ggree to a certain extent m8 but rulz are rulz ,,ano there meant to be broken ,bent blah blah ,,but at the end of the day if there offending other members then its gotta be looked at ,,,,,

what about a seperate section ,a section to get it off yer chest ,a ranting section you know what i mean and it coud be modded accordingley ,,,

No m8 you miss the point. No rules are broken, threads are pulled for no reason. If they broke the rules then fair play if they have broke the rules. but when a thread is closed because it MIGHT be heading in the wrong direction, thats just wrong. Don't anticipate the outcome, follow the thread and judge it by i'ts posts,

I agree we should be able to debate things of all types but think of the mods especially in a forum of this size. They have so much to trawl through to make sure we are being good in the first place, the censorship makes sense for them to a certain extent.

In saying that, I am sure the mods themselves like a good "debate" and rant on occasion and they unlike us are more bound by their positions as responsible people of the forum so they cannot give their all.

At the end of the day it is PC gone mad being policed by guys with the same general feelings as us but powerless to do anything about it if the forum is to be kept running.

Shame have to be followed at times.

You too miss the point m8. I have already said if rules are broken then the thread should be closed.I am saying, this is not always the case when some threads are closed.

Let forums live in the spirit they are intended. We don't want a free for all but i would like to see constructive debates an whatever topic it may be.

Fair play on that m8. I agree that was off topic, as i said in the thread. I'm not talking about any thread in particuar or nor indeed am i having a snipe at any mod. I'm making a general observation of how some threads are pulled for no apparent reason. The thread you mention was a good example of letting something run then closing it when it needed to be.

I hosted a thread with a video URL in the current affairs topic
which was not racist or inflamitory and it was pulled without any reason or complaint from any MOD.

I then posted another thread asking why it was pulled and for what reason there were a couple of reply's but non from any mods.

then a op posted protesting that he viewed the video and did not find it offensive racist or inflamatory, and that he thought the mods were wrong on this 1.

that was promptly followed by (AFTERMATH) telling me the video was shit and if i carried on i would be banned for life, or in his words take a holiday.

He the quickly pulled that thread.

is this what we call freedom of speech or is it what the mods want us to here, smacks of the labour party to me:

i would like to debate the very reasons and dont think any mod should deny any member any reasonable free speech that are wthin the rules of this forum.

I have no problem with open, good debates as long as its kept within the Rules and a little common sense are applied.

No Racism in any shape or form. (Goes in all shapes and sizes)
No links on any ways to ~~~~ (if you want it, go google for it)
No posts that other members could find offensive. (Fron the rules Any racist, bigotry or discriminating posts will not be tolerated)

Basically keep it within the rules, and not to upset any other member (or try not to) and its totally fine.

I also think we have the friendliest forums on the net that i have come accross. But a line has to be drawn somewhere.

The mods/admin here do a great job in keeping us just in line, letting us just get on with it, but they DO HAVE A JOB TO DO. So if your thread/post could be deemed as offensive, then it should be closed without notice

A forum i used to frequent years ago had a section called "the cesspool" where it was no holds barred.

If a post descended into flames and abuse it got punted to the cesspool to allow members to tussle it out within reason.

THE CESSPOOL
This is a very immature and flammable forum, enter with caution. Not recommended if you are at work or school.

If people continualy broke the rules they got their permissions recinded and could only post in the pool till they "redemed" themselves. To great and often humerous effect, hell they even tossed established members in the pool on quiet weeks just to kill the boredom, only for people to sign in and realise theyre trapped with the morons in the pool
Nothing funnier than playing a joke on someone with a great reputation and post count

This being said it was a site geared towards tournaments so tempers did flare up fairly frequently between competative individuals over the nights matches and more often than not fighting, shit slinging and dick waving contests broke out. This isnt to say it was malicious, more funny and friendly.
When you play regularly with people you relly get to know them and you can take it in good spirit, the pool just prevented threads getting derailed by egos, a simple prune job to a new thread in the pool (often with hilarious titles) so if anyone was interested they could spectate the ego clash ensue

It would be nice to see something simmilar develop here, a sub forum which is clearly marked as containing content likely to offend, and its far better to demote people to the pool and watch the developments than simply ban or suspend a user it also cut out proxying and multiple account behavior.

All this being said however I fail completely to see how anyone can get easily offended at posts though, i mean if you read the title before clicking you can more often than not tell if its going to aggrivate some kind of mental hemorrhoid before you get into it. so im more than a little biased in my opinions here.

Live and let live, if someone wants to hold a belief then so be it, i do enjoy arguing though
