As gmb said..go back and take a picture of the pothole and get the repair done and get the council to foot the bill.

My father in law done that a few years back when he burst a spring with a pothole.

they seem to have enough bloody tarmac to make speed humps round by me,so why not use the bloody stuff to fill in all the bloody holes!!

some dealers have outlets for getting allows repaired good as new,one of a kind makes it hard to replace them.

The council are only responsible if they have been negligent. That means that if they didn't know the pot hole was there, they're not liable.

The council is only negligent if they knew beforehand that the pot hole was there and they've had a reasonable amount of time (about a month since it was reported) to repair it but they haven't done. So if nobody's reported it, or it had not been picked up by one of their highways inspectors then they've not been negligent. Futhermore, if you've had a load of snow (like most places) then many more pot holes will have appeared so the council could argue that they haven't been negligent as it was not reasonably practical to repair all the pot holes immediately due to the vastly incresed number.

Ultimately, what this means to you is you need to have had your accident on a pot hole that the council is likely to have known about for some time. In other words find one that is on a main road (as these are inspected more frequently by the highways inspctors) that you know has been there for some time and tell them you damaged your tyre and wheel there.

you don't have to look far on any road near me , to find some seriously deep craters (at least 12 that would cause you to crash) , on my 12 mile journey to work .
Four of these were there 4-6 weeks before the freeze and only since the thaw have they been filled .
Councls readily admit , it now costs them more in compensation claims , than it would to repair the holes in the first place.
My guess is all the councils will do , is increase the council tax to cover up for their incompetence !

Alloys are not as versatile as the old steel rims. My advice, for your own safety is to replace your alloy and as stated by the other respondants to your query, photo pothole and contact relevant Council or authority.
