ok guys the meeting was a bit of a rabble as expected from about 70 workers, but the upshot was because we are non union we need to have some reps voted in to look after our interests.....so as there were too many there will now be a ballot to vote in reps....probably about 6-8 i think but that will take another week then consultation will begin....looks like it could be drawn out for a bit....i will let you know what happens next

        good luck jasbo,
you should check your employement contract and employee handbook to see what your entitled from your employer if made redundant. You certainly have been there long enough to qualify for redundancy payout. Big employers tend to give you 3 months full pay. smaller companies tend to only pay statuary redundancy pay.

Sorry to hear of your bad news Mate , had it twice in my working life and the older you get , the harder it seems to hit . I'd worked 18yrs for my last place , we were non-union , but they agreed to appoint a negotiator for us and what a difference it made .
I was offered the basic , 1.5wks pay per year (over 40) , for every year ?570 x 18 =?10,260 , the company said if i agreed within the week , they'd add the 90 day lieu of notice(?4560) , due to the number of people involved , ( over 100 ) , the company were looking to finish 220 and relocate from Merseyside to the Midlands.
              The union guy eventually negotiated 2.5wks pay per year (over 40) ?950 x18 = ?17,100 plus the 90 day lieu payment = ?4560 .
I walked out with ?21,660 , more than double the original offer , if they're not going bust and are just relocating , contact the local trades union , they have professional negotiators , used to dealing with trained management .
              Good Luck .

latest at the meeting today...they want us to go back to work till negotiations go ahead from next week....if everything goes smoothly ( no wrecking the place or stealing) they will pay double time. it might take up to another 4 weeks and the have said that NOBODY will refuse the offers as they will be enhanced no end...mmmmm...we will see...to be continued.

I understand if you and your workmates want to go for the latest offer as of the last meeting but be very wary of them doing a double back on it.

As you have said, you are not a union shop and really have nothing even though you have representation they can still just walk away and suffer minimal penalties from the government end of things.

Hope you all get better than previously offered mate....good luck.

If the company are seeking to move elswhere chances are you can negotiate yourselves a good deal if you stick together as they will want the move done as quickly as possible to get back into production. If they think you are determined enough to put a spanner in their works that strengthens your hand, good luck and I hope a new job comes along soon.
