    VAT on fuel

VAT on fuel - extra hidden duty
When vat was reduced to 15% in January 2009 the chancellor levied an extra 2p per litre of fuel, to compensate for the loss of revenue from the vat reduction.

Now that vat has now gone back to 17.5%, guess what, the extra 2p is still there!

Don't let them get away with it.

that petition ran out 12 march, look at the price of petrol now.
The best way to make the petrol companies to put the prices down, is to buy the minimum petrol that you need, or boycott the forecourts one day a week something needs to be done? at this rate were gonna pay ?10 a gallon any one got any Ideas, lets share them.

that's a load of bullshit. How much of global demand for fuel do you think the UK accounts for? The petrol companies operate in worldwide markets and the price of brent crude is set by the market. If demand in the UK falls, it'will have a negligible effect on worldwide demand. The oil companies will continue to sell at the market price in places of rising demand like China and Russia.

If there is a drop in global demand the oil companies will simply produce less oil to keep the prices higher.

The only person you will harm if you stop buying petrol is yourself because you can't go anywhere.

so what your saying is give in and let them charge whatever they want and you'll pay that price.I am not going to stop buying petrol all I am saying is just buy what you need and dont fill the tank up for the sake of filling it up.

What I'm sayin is I'm gonna keep buying it for as long as I can afford it. If you think boycotting fuel will force te companies to lower their prices then you're living in cloud cuckoo land

best way to save petrol is drive your car smoothly, no harsh use of the accelerator pedal, keep the revs under 2.5k in all gears, make sure your tyre pressure is bang on - not under and certainly not over also don't overfill your tank ..

as for not filling up the tank.. i get a better return of mileage when i fill my tank compared to doing four separate quarter fills ..

Another good tactic is block shifting. Leave decent amount of space from the car in front. Instead of shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear, speed up to about 27-28 mph and then shift straight from 2nd into 4th or even 5th if you can get your car into 5th at that speed. Makes no sense but work sent me on a sustainable driving course and it actually works.
