Imagine doing anything you love and being good at it.
Now imagine being offered a prize for doing it.
It presents a bit of a problem, if you accept the prize you get every asshole in academia contacting you perpetualy till the point you can no longer focus on doing the thing you love, instead you get to spend your day answering letters and writing paper anfter paper for shitty journals looking to cash in on your fame.
Add to this that what was once fun becomes a grind because everything you do from that point on will be tirelessly scrutinised by the next wave of people wanting to get some bloody prize.

I respect the guy for his decision and don't blame him for being a social recluse. Once your in the limelight people of all walks of life want more from you. I on the other hand would take the money because I still have a family to raise and my body is showing signs of the years of physical and mental stress.Comment
