    tax return anyone help

anyone help please i lost job last july/aug so i am now a bum

i have earnt altogether with my benefit a paltry ?11507 for the last tax year

i paid when i was working ?1320.20 in tax

the DSS have said im not entitled to anything but i think they are wrong

i used an online calculator which has told me i should get around ?400

my tax code is 685L giving me a tax free allowance of ?6859

so if i take this ?6859 from my ?11507

it gives me a taxable income of ?4648 which at 20% income tax is ?929

so why the ~~~~ have i paid ?1320 and they say they dont owe me anything

    or am i missing something?

i would suggest contacting the tax office first it looks as if you've paid too much tax you may get a rebate the dole don't deal with tax, your dole is based on n.i. contributions if you were paying them when employed you should be entitled to benefits don't ring the benefits office make an appointment and set your case out to them if you ring them more often than not they'll fob you off good luck

did you include N.I. contributions in your deductions m8....or maybe you were in the 40% bracket for some earned and the tax mans not recalculated the adjustment back to 20%

my tax allowance is the same m8 . its added to the tax amount and not deducted from the gross .. it looks like it is on your tax form ... l applied for my daughters student finance and was told they dont deduct the allowance for the top line of your gross m8

i used this to work it out

Listentotaxman.com Free UK PAYE Income Tax Calculator 2010. Updated for 2010 / 2011 tax year. Calculate your salary / wages / take home pay for free online.

surely taxable pay is taxable pay and has nothing to do with ni contributions anyway

how much wages do you need to earn for the 40% bracket i dont think i earned anywhere near enough for that i was on ?30,000 a year

i was told when i asked about a tax rebate last year that the dole will sort it out at the end of the year as the benefit is taxable
