My only claim to fame. GONE!!

Back in 1982, i took a trip to jersey, in order to compete in the BJA (judo) jersey open championship. i ended up bringing back a bronze in the over 95 kilo division. interestingly i weigh the same now, just some of it is a bit lower than it was then. i beat a black belt on the way, i was only a yellow tag (first grade of all in judo), and heard several "bit good for a yellow tag" comments. if they only knew. i didnt even have a grading (getting belts was never my gig with judo, i just loved the action. and anyway, some of the club trained with Neil Adams, this meant the occasional visit from Sharon Davies a big deal for a 22 year old man!) we forged it on the ferry across! sadly i can find no evidence of my achievement, well on the net. so it will remain just a good story. condolence donations will be taken shortly

Maybe send an email to [email protected] and see if they know any sites where it's mentioned.

The internet wasn't really as big a deal back then so there probably wasn't any online articles about it. Maybe if you can find a newpaper that did an article about it, they might have an archives section on their site that you could look through - or even email them about it.

i kinda like it as a, near myth. especially about waking up in some hotel dining room, with not the slightest idea where you are. or worse still frogs legs, after a skin full of beer! even finding the bottom draw of my bedside set full of puck when i did get back to my hotel. it sorta sounds made up, bit like the rest of my life, when i relate it to people. not sure if i dont like it that way. ultimately though, i cheated to gain access to the competition, and don't deserve the honour.

ps I'd love to tell that black belt, i only had six months experience of judo and no grading before i took him out to Ipon, 10 points or knock out.

Nice achievement m8, its a nice feeling when you get some success out of your passtime.
I remember about 12 years back,
I was a Pigeon Racing fanatic, eat.sleep, drink pigeon racing. Always put the Pigeons first.

We used to have 8 big races a year, in which everyone from Berwick down to North Yorkshire could enter the races, and they Were from France.

One day we raced from France , a place called Lillers ( some 360 miles from here ). There was just over 36,000 Birds entered for the big race.

I came first, and i never slept for ages, i was 10 feet tall.

I will never forget that feeling . when i got a visit from the president of the Up North Combine to clarify i had won, and was presented with my gold medal. Also i was interviewed and made front page of the Pigeon Racing magazines.

God, i wish i could do it again, but ive not raced them for about 10 years now.
