Save A Fortune On Razor blades

I'm using Mach 3 blades, but I'm sure it will work on any other type.

I used to get about 2 weeks worth of shaving out of a blade, and never anything like the claimed time from the manufacturer. One day I decided that I would look at the old fashioned doubled edged blade razor but gave up the idea when I remembered what it was like roi get cuts all the time. I then found a product that came highly rated that basically allows you to strop your triple blade. The reviews stated that all it was doing was removing the soap scum etc, but it did work. However I also found info stating that there is no need to waste your money on this product because you can achieve the same by stropping the razor up and down a pair of jeans. All I can say is that my Mach 3 blades now last at least 3 months each. Of course some will state that they get longer than my original 2 weeks, but in any case you see a vast improvement in the rate that the blade deteriorates by comparison. Try it on your blade next time your shave and you should see an immediate improvement to your shave.

Moved on to using a straight razor years ago, never paid for a razor since, it costs me roughly ?10 a year to shave and thats only due to forking out for a nice soap refill (taylor of old bond street, sandalwood is AWESOME!)

I get a closer shave than anything a gillete ever gave.
    Cant recommend them highly enough.

The initial outlay is a fortune to be honest, what with soap, strop, hone, quality solingen high carbon blade and a decent badger hair brush.
But like i said its cost me next to nothing since.
As a nice bonus it looks way too intimidating for your wife/daughter to use on their legs.

                    AVOID!
Anything stainless should be steered well clear of, stainless doesnt hold a fine enough edge for any ammount of time (think a few strokes) then you need to re-hone and that wind up grinding off too much, a stainless razor will give a painful shave and last about a year before its trashed.

Your looking for high carbon steel preferably branded from Solingen germany.
Dovo make sweet razors that will last a life time. As do Thiers-Issard
The cheapest id go for a first timer shave ready straight would be ?70
his is one of the cases where you do get what you pay for.
you can pick bargains up on fleabay but these are likely to be vintage blades that will take a decent ammount of experience to get back to shavable.

A decent usable set will set you back between ?130~300 depending on how much your budget is willing to stretch.
(this should include (a quality razor, a quality brush, soap, a hone and a strop, anything else is non essential fluff)

Disturbingly enough your not far off the mark GMB, its been known for millenia that the crystaline structure of glass can create a knife far sharper and more durable than iron and steel.

Along a fracture line of glass you wind up with an edge just a few angstroms thick, capable of severing the individual hydrogen bonds and protien chains of hair.

Steel/iron on the other hand dont have structures that "line up" nearly as nicely and tend to bend slightly on contact due to their malleable nature.

Eye surgeons and electron microscope boffins make their own custom glass blades
