I can understand what you're saying but I don't think it's really feasible to have a post like that.

Each recevier has so much that could written that it would be too much for one thread.

Try breaking it down into stages, i.e. which box do I get, what does each do, what do I want my box to do, what are my expectations? OK...I've got my box, how do I flash it with modified firmware? Now the firmware is on, how do I scan for channels? Now I have the channels, how do I watch the premium channels for free? Now I have my box working the way I want, what extra features are there that I can play about with? Oh no, I've broken the box...how do I fix it?

Don't worried about asking seemingly silly questions. We have all been there and started out knowing nothing. We won't tell you to use the search function as it's been asked before. I might find the thread for you and give you a nudge in the right direction though.

    Here's a starter...

Eurovox/Starview - Easy to use TV only receivers. Some models have hard disks so you can timeshift, pause live tv, record, etc. You will need to flash new firmware using a null modem cable so you'll need a com port on your PC or get a usb to null modem cable.

Dbox2/Dreambox - Limux based receivers. Mostly involves flashing a new image. You will definitely need to connect it to your PC using a crossover ethernet cable. You will need to learn how to transfer files from your PC to the box via FTP. Some understanding of networking is advantageous.

That's pretty much it in a nut shell!

    Have fun!
