    VAT Charge invoice

    Uncle received a VAT Charge invoice from DHL one month after receiving a DM800 he ordered from China. Any ideas why it has come 1 month after receiving a product ??

          17.5% of whatever then 10 quid for the hell of it.

          Would be inclinded to

          a) do what sminoff did
          b) Just put the vat amount with a copy of the invoice in the post

          IF/WHEN they shout about their 10 quid, say you expected the VAT but not the DHL charge

          OFF TOPIC, BUT RELEVENT:

          A few years ago a mate asked Meat-City-Council for
          "permission to have a skip on the road, having a new roof"

          permission granted, skip came, filled, sent away no prob.

          2 weeks/ a month whatever

          <KNOCK KNOCK>

          "Hello sir Meat-City Council, come to inspect your new roof"

          "Oh ok what ever coont"

          "we only know because some dumb ~~~~ said it on the form for
          permission for the skip"

          "Come in, ladder there, i'll stick kettle on"

          <2 mins later>

          "Yes sir that's fine, i'll drink the tea and piss off"

          Few days later bill in the post

          From Meat-City Council.
          to inpecst roof, standard charge 100 quid, pay up or else
          So my mate writes on the back of the form

          From Mr xxxxx standard charge for making your inpector a cup of tea 50 quid, here is a cheque for 50 quid, now ~~~~ off
          No more was said.

            Is it anything to do with the item being imported, hence the country of origin has not got VAT? I know certain items are subject to certain taxes when imported...chuck

                    Are you sure the charge is not Import Duty?

                      I don't thint anyone has a clue how the system works, they say you are allowed this and not that, this is taxable that is not, duty must be paid on this but others are emempt, I think that DHL should stand any outstanding amount, they are the courier they know what was in the package as they screen everything and they should know what extras should be payable, they should have charged any outstanding amount on delivery..send back the invoice and say "no longer at this address" robbing b.stards...chuck
