Puzzled by access permissions

Is that to much to ask? or at least inform people when trying to access the page, instead of handing out the text below! I actually was waiting for qualified response to a important question. For some reason I suddenly don't have access to the "The Garage" anymore. Puzzling as I have started two threads in there the last month with no problems at all.

I don't see any reason that my posts could be offensive in any way. One was a question about some car software and the other one about some hardware I was looking into buying for industrial purpose.
Annoying really, cause I want to know if someone answered to this last post as I still have the same question.


Anyone have any idea to why I do not have access? I didn't receive mail or nothing, just, KAZAM! closed! aye?


I receive the following text, but see no answer to why my account should be blocked for any of these reasons, also I see nowhere to contact admins/support.

albenza, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

1. Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
2. If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation. Check your registered email address for an activation link.
3. If you are trying to download files from the download section or download attachments, you are required to post on the forums before gaining access. FFS mate read the forum.. The Garage has special permissions as its being abused.. If you can't access it then you haven't been given permission by the moderators.. You need to contribute to the site as a whole.. if you do and the moderators think you are here for the good of others and not just to rape the downloads then you will be given access rights

Try reading the message you got.. it clearly states why you cant access the Garage

You'll be missed with an attitude like that.. can't get your downloads so your fcuking off.. You could have stayed and contributed to the site in other sections.. dont you like sport, music, satellite TV etc..? obviously not.. your loss lad.. you only need to prove you are genuine and not here to rape the downloads section

How was I to know when I had access just two/three days ago? The message doesn't explain that. Besides, I never downloaded anything from in here.

because the site was getting crushed by so many new people joining purely for garage downloads.. its been all over the site.. you would have seen that if you were here for more than downloads.. you expect the admin to email all 195'000 users..???

No I wouldn't. I was here to discuss automotive software, I needed a question answered before I bought a device. I never looked at the other sections and never looked at the download section.

I did however like the answer I got and thought I would come back, so I did. I posted another thread a few days ago, biut now I suddenly don't have access anymore... Sorry my interests is so narrow minded. Why wouldn't they mail every user? or those who posted a thread in there the last 3 days or something. At least state it in the error message people receive. c'mon, I may be to quick to judge here, but still....

mate.. Digital Kaos was setup to provide a place for enthusiasts of satellite TV and Cable TV to come and chat.. Over time its grown to encompass all digital genres..

There is a massive problem with people joining just to ask one question or maybe two in the garage section then pissing off.. the server costs to host the website increase dramatically the bigger the site gets..

Upshot is that certain parts of the forum require certain access rights.. The Garage is now one such part..

Regular contributors to the site as a whole will be rewarded with extra privileges the more they contribute.. this isn't a file share service.. its a forum..

Contribute to it as a whole and you will be rewarded..

Access rights have been changed due to people like you who expect everything for nothing in return..

Also you expect the admin to email all 195'000 users...!!
The moderators and admin on this site are just like you and me.. they have other lives.. family, work etc..

no one gets paid to post or moderate here.. ITS ALL enthusiasts

WHAT!?! So I expect everything and give nothing in return? How would you know!? I actually did reply to a problem in there I knew something about. Sorry there was nothing else I could answer at the time. I guess that makes me a leech! I ask you again, how was I to know it was suddenly made into a "access right" forum? Don't tell me you can't see how this is inconvenient to me, as I had just posted a question but didn't yet receive a response, and now, if someone answered I can't read it anyhow.
I understand this need if the forum is being "raped", but don't judge me when you don't know me, that's just ignorant! and again, I never downloaded anything from in here. Rules like these sometimes hit the wrong people, but I understand the need to enforce them nevertheless.

Regarding sending a mail to every user. Do you really think this is done by hand? LOL! You just query the database and fire the mail mate. takes 10 min. to write the code for doing this. Anyhow, as I said, they could have just informed people in that message I posted above.

This is a digital community.. regular users contribute to the whole site.. not just 4 posts in one month..

stick around and prove you are here for the long term, to help others and not just here for when you have a problem and you will be rewarded..

I was a bit miffed at first too mate but I can see why it's being done. I'm not about to post a load of crap to boost my post count up either so it may take me a while to get into the garage section again but that's the way it is. No amount of complaining is gonna change the decision and it's not really our place to complain; remember we're not being charged to use this site but the owners/admin ARE charged to keep it running...
