    Criminal record Bureau checks

Now I am no Jack the Ripper or Ian Huntley before we start.

I have been looking on the net and can see no definite answer..

When I was a yoof, I got into the odd spot of bother with the law. This is now 15 years ago, and I need to do a basic CRB check. How long does the law keep your record of convictions for? As I say I am not looking to be a teacher or work in health, but I am looking to start my own Dog Walking/Care business and would like this to show to my potential customers.

    Thanks in advance!

I dont think this is a required when working with animals.
only when likely to be working with children, elderly or vulnerable.

see this link for info on any convictions etc for lengths of time held on record.

There will be a record of the mistemeanour, howver that wont or shouldnt mean you dont get a certificate, unless you have been convicted of drowning puppies

If your only going for a basic check, you have no need to worry,
as these do not show spent convictions, and seeing your convictions go back 15 years they wont show up.

        Edit

FYI: CRB are in the process of reorganising, including some changes to there policy and procedure
but this shouldn't affect you as most of the changes are for pubic sector employees (NHS)

Well I have looked at businesses in other areas (there doesnt seem to be any near me) and they vary between ?10-?12 a one on one walk for an hour and ?6-?8 an hour for a multi dog walk. The sitting side can charge between ?25 and ?30 for an evening.

If me and the missus do it, and as long as we can get enough customers.... we should do ok out of it

Thing is you can not apply for a CRB check on your self, it has to be done by a company. You can for a tenner get a police check done, this shows what info they have/hold on you. You can get the form from your local police station.

As far as I can see you do not need this if working with animals.

@masur123 Why do you need this check to work with animals?
From what I can see on their website you can apply yourself if you wish to have it to re-assure pet owners that you are responsible

Yes absolutely to show potential customers, especially as I am asking them to trust me with

                            1) Their beloved pet (possibly pedigree)
                            2) Their worldy possesions if I am sitting

I still think you can apply for one yourself if you are going self employed. Did you check out their eguide or send them an email to ask?
