My wife is in the process of going through legal channels with Paypal due to their cock up.

We bought T in the Park tickets for a friend but found out the guy was a fraud so we did the usual and got a dispute reference. A few days later the money was in my wifes bank account so we withdrew it to give back to our pals and closed dispute.

Since then her Paypal account has shown a negative balance and Paypal want the money (over a grand)...for goods we never recieved and following their rules!

They now have a debt collection agency on the case so we went to Citizens Advice and one of their lawyers are taking the case up for us.

Apparently Paypal pay the seller the money before your money clears through the usual channels so what you think is an immediate payment actually isn't. Paypal want our money because they have lost over a grand to a fraudster...not us.

    Yet another "problem" with paypal

Remember Paypal is not a bank and they keep asking me for my bank account details in any circumstances do not ever give them your account details because they can withdraw money from your account if anything goes wrong it says in the small print.

They recently withheld 650,000 euro from Minecraft's notch, with no explanation. Of course they're scum. They don't have to play nice when they're the biggest kid in the park.

The point is not either you have or not have money in your account it?s the principal and the law should make it clear that no money transactions should take place between the buyers and sellers if you are not the bank it should have never been allowed in the first place.

be aware that paypal is ebay and ebay is paypal,,they are the same outfit marauding as two seperate entities,,,they have got it completely sown up,,also buyers always prefer to use paypal as they then think they are covered if anything goes wrong or gets lost or damaged etc so as a seller you are ~~~~ed
                paypal are a nightmare !!!

Trouble is you HAVE to give them the details if you want to be a member of paypal. If you don't then you cannot pay by paypal or use their services.
I use ebay and paypal because it is convenient, I am well aware of the problems. There is or was a webshite called paypalsucks.com highlighting lots of bad scenarios, but touch wood, I have never been stung.
I would never accept paypal for larger transactions, car sale etc, but for up to ?200 ish, I will continue to take the risk.

i have only used paypal once, but now i just use a prepaid card from the bank and top it up with just over the amount i need to pay for stuff, then if theres a scam theres ~~~~ all to take from my card. i like it they give you the card and pin code right away so you can check your balance on any atm and take money out if you have any. its a no brainer really gives you peace of mind that your main bank account wont be raided

I AM TAKING PAYPAL TO COURT.
I sold two items on ebay and buyers paid through Paypal account and when I went to withdraw the money from Paypal account they have stopped me from withdrawing my money on the grounds of,

                          1. Defence 1st reply to statement that Claimant should phone Paypal.
                          2. Defence 2nd reply to statement declares that Claimant was trying to add a bank account already assigned to another account.
                          3. Defence 3rd reply to statement declares that Claimant was using more then three accounts on above email address and I should delete other bank accounts in order to withdraw the money.
                          4. Defence 3rd reply to statement that upon checking your account, we can see that the transaction is beyond the 45 days period of Paypal buyers dispute even if the case has been closed it can be reopened after 180 days.

You can see Paypal members have changed the statements 4 times to avoid payment to claimant and the only time any one can change the statements if a police officer is pointing a gun to say the way he likes it or under the stress and I can not see Paypal under any stress for changing statements but only trying to avoid payment to claimant therefore they have left me no other options but to take them to court the hearing is in the Northampton County Court on the 25th October 2010, all the digital-kaos members are invited for the hearing.

I read a storey of a women who sold child pushchairs and some dolls in order to pay gas bills and when it came to collect the money from Paypal account they were really nasty and this women ended not getting the money because she could not fight back she wrote in the statement to Paypal saying although I have paid my bills I can only feed my children?s once a day to make it up.
