Yes, they are good. It has pretty much the same hardware as the original Desire....with a few tweaks.

It's faster as it now carries a dedicated GPU, so it now matches the Samsung Galaxy S, Tab & Iphone.
HD support for video recording with an 8MP camera.

This may not beat the Galaxy S, it still has some battery issues that you will need to read up on. Usually fixed with some tweaking of the GPS, wi-fi & 3G connections within the menus.... mainly turning them off.

But this is still a very good phone. When compared to your Tocco lite this will be similar to your first steps one day to running a 4 min mile a day later.

A little thirsty if you leave the GPS, wi-fi & 3G connections active.

With light use it will easily last the day & then some, but if you hammer the internet or watch movies it will quickly drain away.

The best advice I was given on this is to keep the 3 items mentioned turned off. You can create a button on the main screen that will turn on/off the 3G connection. Since 3G is only needed for internet usage it doesn't need to be on all the time. This would give an estimate 40% extra battery life on the HTC Hero.

A friend has the Galaxy S, I mentioned the above. It's never been brought up in conversation since. Given he upgraded to it on my advice I'd never of heard the end of it if it was still a problem.

I've got the original Desire and with 3 items mentioned by Canker (GPS, wi-fi & 3G connection) and with light use the battery runs for 3 days, but you have to consider that the Desire HD has a bigger display which will consume more power.

Fantastic phone, got one battery needs to bed in for a few weeks but only needs charging at night. You can create switches onscreen to turn wifi, bluetooth, mobile off on as and when needed. score against other phones 10/10. Got the offer of 600mins, 500text, unlimited internet from Moneysupermarket ?25 pm 24month contract. You could get it cheaper now.
              Keep calm carry on.
