Looking at todays cuts then you're gonna get a damn site less for your money!
If there is a %8.9 cut in budget for councils received by government then how the fcuk can the council tax go up this year?
Every bloody council in the country is going to instantly raise their rates and we all suffer.
I work for the council, you lot can say what you like about the council workers in your erea up there in Scotland but i can tell you down here in south west london we have to work.
Just as we had put behind us two weeks of dangerous footpaths following the last snow (thanks to our useless unaccountable council) then down comes another 8 inches of the fluffy stuffy. So another fortnight of slip sliding away.
I was thinking of applying to the council for permission to extend my front garden wall to the roadside(taking in the footpath) as I am supposed to be responsible for deicing the footpath just to get their reply. And hoping the reply would be along the lines that the footpath is their property and not mine which means--why the hell do I have to deice their property. But then of course they are bone idle, not stupid.
Apparently if you de-ice your front path outside your property and someone falls the council can plonk the blame on you as it should be left up to them. They would encourage the person to sue you for interfiering in a non health and safety way causing a hazard.
Apparently they are trained in throwing grit over pavements (have tickets etc for it) and we the public cant do it.
Shame they didnt get off theyre backsides and sort it rather than leaving it to the more uncapable of us.
Note to council members:
I have cleared the little road into my housing area 3 times now since siberia hit us.
PS No-ones slipped all i got was a big thankyou and we stood and talked about the council for best part of 15 minutes which got the blood pumping and kept us warm.
You, as an individual, are responsible for maintaining safe access to the property. Anyone injuring themselves while on your property could claim for damages. So shovel away all that snow like a good slave.
Just remember!! If you clear away the snow on the pavement leading to your property, you are just as liable for any injuries caused by your hard work if someone should slip over
Ya damed if you do, & damed if ya don't.
All health & safety officers should be taken out at dawn & shot. Followed by the lawyers that told them what to do.
Beaten to it, dam you

Over here the Government tried to make it the householders responsibility for the footpath in front of the property.
I have cleared and salted from my front gate to the door.
