I have just been on the website for my department at university, and they will be campaigning for core texts to be provided free of charge to all students and ensuring that the students are getting value for money from the increased fees.

Combined with larger bursaries and scholarships the higher fees may lead to even better education being provided by universities'.

If people don't think that their degree is a worthwhile investment of ?37.5k (working on ?9k fees and ?3.5k maintenance).

Don't go to university. There are plenty of other non academic career paths.

May I ask what your experience is?

Also how is it this governments fault that people are now unemployed, it wasn't the current government that got us into this mess. I will admit that the credit crunch isn't Labour's fault either but the reckless spending during the recession as an attempt to spend our way out of it was.

At the end of the day if the debt isn't worth the salary don't go to university. If I was 17 now looking to enrol when the fee hike kicks in I would be making damn sure I got the best out of my course.

The labour government screwed the education system up by encouraging too many people to go to university which lead to the rise in mickey mouse degrees where the graduates end up working in call centres etc.

I am now at a reasonably good university for an MSc after going to a really bad university for my BEng I have seen this from both sides and I can see what the government is trying to do.

My main concern is that the students on worthwile degrees will be made to pay for those on mickey mouse subjects that have just had funding cuts.
Sounds like America. They sold everyone on the idea that college is the only way to go that it's for everyone and someone that works with their hands are foolish. No we are desperate for skilled labor and our college grads are working at the Gap.
