    no water

just wondered if anyone can offer any help or advice.

my mums had no water since christmas day. she is in a semi detached house and guy next door been dealing with it. when they initially phoned they were told its "private pipes" i wanted to phone the papers re it as the daily record were reporting on how we are sending loads of water to peeps in ireland when people on scottish waters doorstep have no water. (no offence to anyone in ireland)

today after 10 days someone eventually came out to look at what the problem was. they did deliver 6 bottles of water today at 2pm but my mum was at my sisters for a shower and to do her washing.

they said it might not be scottish waters problem due to these so called private pipes and a contractor will be out tomorrow to assess it which can apparantly cost 1000's to fix!!

    any advice peeps?

The usual rule of thumb is that up to the isolation point is the responsibility of the supplier and after that if then falls to the individual, however this can be disputed on the run between the isolating valve and the property is on a adopted road (ie houses where the front door in directly onto the pavement). Also upon advice I had my water meter fitted in my property as opposed to in the street as someone actually beat the water company in court stating they had fitted it there so they were responsible from the isolation point to the meter.......

I think they will cover internal bursts and blockages but not external, you probably have to apply for an ammendment to your policy...chuck

lainie ask your mum if she pays water rates- if she does then they are responsible for the supply pipes.
