    Fish fight

Has anyone been watching Hugh Fearnley Whittingstalls
    "Fishfight" ?
I was gobsmacked at the fact that half of the fish trawled in uk waters is thrown back dead to comply with E.E.C. rules .
This guy actually followed a trawler that was only licenced to catch sea bass , intsead , they netted 100's of kilo's of prime cod which they had to throw back dead , or face fines .
As they threw them back , Hugh Fearnley scooped himself 80kg or so of prime cod before they sank and landed them unchallenged .
The worlds gone bloody mad ! , most folk can't afford to buy cod , yet they're dumping 1000's of tons overboard .

Take a look at fishfight .net , it'll boil your blood and sadden you !

There's a petition anyone everyone can sign at fisfight.net , they're hoping to get 500,000 signatures and present it to the fisheries minister in Brussels , they reckon the campaigns already beginning to cause discomfort there .
Got to be worth giving it a go to put an end to this "sinfull waste" they casually call "discard quotas"

Its ~~~~in scandalous. another one is the ammount of fish used to feed farmed salmon. its 3 lbs to produce 1lb of salmon according to one website. doesnt make sense to me. 3 times the ammount of healthy wild fish to produce a antibiotic filled, chemically treated fish

They never do. Petitions are nothing more than appeasement, to make people feel like theyre "doing something" as opposed to merely sitting on their arse.

I have been watching this on CH4 with interest, cracking TV for CH4 I must say. I agree that the laws are mad but.........

Here is the bit I don't understand........

They show that the methods to catch Tuna using purse nets also result in netting Sharks, Turtles etc, this results in them being tossed back to the sea dead! These fishermen are depicted as pretty unsavoury.

Then we see British fishermen trying to catch fish other than Cod (ie Sea Bass), but they catch Cod too as a result and throw them back dead.

So, what is the difference? Why can't the British fishermen throw the Cod back alive??
