    remoe control helicopters

any body any experience of these things.

was thinking of buying one to mess about with,
nothing serious like, just to play around with (for the lad)

i seen this one in maplins.

3-Channel R/C Lynx Helicopter Free Delivery : Maplin

it is reduced from ?80 to ?40 quid at the moment...

    is it any good???

also, what is the crack with flying these things?

can u use them anywhere, public parks etc or does it have to be priveate ground?

Get it. You gonna love it. I started with something similar a few years ago, and up 'till today have had tons of fun. Now got a few ranging from the HoneyBee King 2, Belt CP and Hirobo Shuttle Nitro. This particular chopper u mention can be flown indoors as they are so light weight, but dont do well outdoors, unless its a calm day, due to wind. Have fun!!

My lad bought one from a gadget shop, with some of his Christmas money,
I think it cost ?30, and it was well worth it, there very sturdy, I crashed it a few times with no damage caused, and a lot of fun,
I wouldn't use it outside though, as a gust of wind would take it,
if it's the same as my lad's you can charge it via usb, or through the remote hand set from the 8 battery's, it takes about half an hour to get 15 Mins flying time, deffo good fun, and easy to get the hang of.

        just for reference.

Newphew, got one of them micro hellicoptors for birthday, genuine 'accident' it landed wrong, ripped the tail motor off, the wires were finer than pubes.

then for xmas he got another one, worked fine in the morning, pm, nil poi - china man had blobbed solder across a resistor, worked fine till next transister popped, too small to see let alone repair.

Get a GYRO one these are the later ones that are more stable when flying and hover stable, also I would go for one with a aluminium chassis and flexible plastic rotors(loads on fleabay), they are more robust and if you do damage the rotors they are a few pounds, then enjoy annoying everyone with it....

I got the partners little tw@t one of these for christmas, at the same time I got myself a Syma Airwolf.

Both are for indoor use, although I did try mine outside once or twice...not recommended. To be honest I prefer the smaller Apache to the larger Airwolf when flying. But the larger is more dominating.

There's a Syma Cobra with gyro for under ?30. I'd get lots of practice with the smaller type before moving outside. Or there's this metal construction for outside use.

We've had loads of fun playing with these & they do stand up well to crashing into walls & hard objects. Just make sure you check the driveshafts for hair after crashing.

I've got a Syma s107, they cost ?30 from Red5 shops. they are tough and great fun. mine has had many crashes and has been brought down may times, by the cat. yet no damage of any type. new rotors, and blades are available from Red5 (?5 ish) or on fleabay (?2)

they dont do well outside, even in calm conditions. the one linked is much the same. but vastly more expensive (even in a sale) judging from the comments, its fragile too. have a look at Red5 online and fleaby, before you buy. this one looks very expensive and has no (advertised) gyro. this will make if a pig, at best, to fly.

If it aint broke, don't fix it!
If its broke, fix it and use it again!
If it proper broke, use it for something else!

                              one question.
there is a long piece of wire coming from inside the helicoper.

i take it that it is it's ariel?
is it supposed left fully unwould or left wrapped up?
