    printer just died on me

my epson r220 died on me tonight.

says parts came to the end of service life etc and a service is needed but wont bother. ive always used compatable ink and they prob wont touch it.

anyway ive always used epsons and i need a printer that can print to cds.

anyone recommend anything. dont need a dogs bollox one just one that does the job and preferrably doesnt cost the earth.

i have loads of ink for the r220 if anyone wants it. i dont want money for them all id ask is you pay the postage.

      @Lainie

I've never had one of those Epson printers, but remember listening to a friend who did, explaining a 'Service Required' error message....he managed to find hack software... that removed the error message, and the printer was able to function as normal...

If your printer is still printing well enough... you may wish to consider finding this hack software...

Just thought I'd mention incase you weren't aware...

And once you've reset the counter, here is a way round collecting the excess ink, without the need to replace the pads.
it says the fix is for the R210, but should also work on the R220

All this shit has just happened to me as well. Had a R285 and reset about 2mnths ago and now completely dead.

Problem is when you use the resetter you'll have a few months at the most. Loathe it or love it...the waste pad warnings are there for a reason.

I usually only get 12 months out of a printer before it dies. I need one that prints cd/dvds and not many of them do it anymore. Ended up buying an Epson P50 but the CISS I had for the R285 is meant to be compatible with that, guess what, its not. They changed the ~~~~ing chips.

So total outlay is ?80 for the printer and another ?50 for the CISS. Running smooth as a baby's arse at the minute but ?130 every year is getting a bit much.

Its still only a temporary fix. It will just die after a few months if you're lucky.

Get yourself a Kodak printer, they are reasonably priced and the ink refills are about half the price of any other make, so even if you go for the top of the range printer from them it will work out much cheaper in the long run.

                    Hi Lainie.
I would love your ink m8.
I have the RX600, had it since 2004, and I just noticed it uses the same ink.
Obviously try get yours sorted if you can, but failing that, cheers.

Seen the adverts on Tv, complete set of inks for just under ?20.

But I pay ?7 for a full set of 6 cartridges for my R300.

I'd back the call for the P50. I had been looking at these last year. The only thing that stopped me was the fact that my current printer is still going strong.

@ xant if i cant get it sorted (and i doubt i can) its first come first served so ink will be yours. i think ive got about 20 carts in total. each cart is only ?1.13 from the place where i get them from.

i suppose i would like a scanner and photocopier and printer in one so going to look around over the weekend.

will try some of the fixes you guys have posted so cheers for them.

Thanx Lainie, Yeah, try get it sorted m8, It was probably a good printer, especially with CD printing. If you don't sort it, there are some cracking buys out there, all in one ones, with wi-fi too for the ?50 mark.
Before you go and hand your money to that nice PCWorld man, please do a google shopping search "all in one printers".
