Cabling for Electric Shower - Advice needed please

    Hello all,

Can someone give some advice please.

I have an existing 7.5Kw electric shower.

I was going to fit a new 8.5Kw electric shower but noticed that the old wiring was
6mm and is 12m in length.

So its border line for 6mm & 8.5Kw.

I have decided to replace it with 10mm but the last 5metre length can not be reached without considerable work & damage.

The 5metre 6mm section is from the consumer unit to somewhere under the stairs.
the last remaining 7m section to the shower, is under floorboards which I intend to replace.

Is it ok to have 7m of 10mm cable joining onto 5m of 6mm cable?
Because 5 metre of 6mm is ok for 8.5Kw according some chart I saw somewhere.

Are we allowed to have "joints" in shower cable?

    Thanks

No mate you need to use 10mm cable for the whole run, other wise you are wasting your time and money.Like you said 6mm is very border line and when you take in the de-rating influences affecting the cable it leave 6mm a bit on the small size.I would never fit less than 10mm for a shower of more than 7kW.Yo can join cable as long has you have right sized joint box but in an ideal world you should try to use one length off cable.
