Tree with leaves turning yellow and not growing

I planted a letchi tree a year back. It stayed about one foot tall with all the leaves turning yellow. Added fertilizer and water but the tree still wouldn't grow. Unusual for an air layered tree.

It was only much later that I learned that ants were eating it's new roots and stunting it's growth. Used some insecticide and now it seems to be growing.

Just wanted to share that tip.

Thanks for the tip..Sometimes ago I had a bonsai tree planted in a pot..The same things happened to it, you have mentioned here.. Though some black ants were around the pot I didn't thought it would be the reason. But, when I read the post I realized that it had been the reason.by the way I'm now too late..because the tree is dead now..

I wonder if there is still some small chance that there's some life in the plant. Maybe you can try and use diluted hydrogen peroxide on it and the soil.

Thank you very much for the tip. Unfortunately, I removed the plant from the pot and planted another plant. However, I wasn't aware of ability of diluted hydrogen peroxide to bring life back. Thank you for sharing. I will use this tip in the future when need

you get a little packet of bleach when you buy cut flowers from supermarkets etc, its used to kill bacteria in the water so the flowers last longer, as for bringing plants "back to life" i doubt that very much.

Thanks for the advice! A good question is how to generally reduce the ant population on the site. I'm already tired of going to process everything. My anthills are on the plot. As if they were paid extra to create anthills here.

It's not bringing back anything back to life! Only God can do that. Just giving the plant some extra help.

And it's not bleach it's hydrogen peroxide.

Regarding ants I would use borax mixed with some sugar. The ants will take both and kill the colony. Mix both in a small container protect from rain. use some pesticides for ants if you don't have borax or boric acid.

your right and wrong regaurding bleach, colour safe bleach is a chemical that uses hydrogen peroxide as the active ingredient (to help remove stains) rather than sodium hypochlorite or chlorine. It also has chemicals in it that help brighten colors.
