A MUM of seven who was granted asylum here is facing jail for swindling nearly ?30,000 in benefits while living in a ?1.2million house.

Toorpakai Saiedi, 38, who fled Afghanistan, yesterday admitted hiding a bank account containing significant savings.

Because benefit officials knew nothing of the secret cash they agreed to pay out housing benefit, working tax credit and Council Tax credit that Saiedi's family was not entitled to.

She was handed a staggering ?170,000 a year in benefits - ?150,000 of which was paid to a private landlord in rent for the luxury townhouse, which has a huge garden, two kitchens and three shower rooms.

Judge Jonathan Lowen told Saiedi, who communicated using an interpreter, she could be jailed when he sentences her later.

She arrived in the UK in 2001 a year after husband Haji. They said they were wealthy farmers living near Kabul and forced to flee by the Taliban.

The scandal of Saiedi's luxury home was exposed by The Sun two years ago.

Her student son Jawad has admitted he thought the council was mad when he heard it was paying the bill for the house in Acton, West London.

He said: "If someone gave you a lottery jackpot, would you leave it?" Landlord Ajit Panesar has defended the huge rent, saying: "I've done nothing wrong.

This was a biggest break through I have seen for some time they should be sent back because you can not go fiddling the Govt when they have given you a luxury life style.

Trouble is, they cant be sent back due to European Human Rights..

I'd personaly move them into a ?40 a week council house in Chelsea's kings road area.. Show them what "being scared for your life and gun crime" is really like over here.. then maybe they'l decide to move out..

Makes you think the country's had it ! , when you see so many of these rip-offs happening , as the average familiy struggles to heat and eat , can you wonder at the resentment these stories cause ?

They do not come from the borders; they fly in the country as Asylum seekers because the west have caused the war in Iraq, and Afghanistan, therefore our Govt have to take them on the ground of human rights. You should ask that question to our UK foreign secretary.

the more people report fraud the more they will catch. local housing allowances are now capped at a maximum thank god so housing allowances like hers wont be paid by the state anymore.

if you see a sign in a shop or supermarket or papers etc re house to let or room to let etc more often that not it will say that dss welcome . the reason being landlords will charge people on benefit more rent than a tenant that works so they can get more money as prev housing benefit would pay for it.

In Edinburgh they allowed different amounts depending on postcode and the money went to the tennant to pay the land lord. I had a flat in the EH14 area and rented it out. The council wouldn't tell me how much the Tennant got. I asked what if I charged less then they got and the council said the Tennant pockets it. WTF. He said it saved them money assessing each claim and it wasn't an issue if they got extra.

even ?800 a month is far to much for housing benefit, you can get a new 2 bed flat in nottingham toon centre for less than that.

If your take home wage is ?200.00 a week how can any 1 pay that kind of rent you will not have any thing to live on, in short the rent is too high for any 1 tempted to go work.

thats exactly how private landlords want people on benefits. theres an asian shop owner in a part of paisley that owns 8 of the flats near his shop. none of the people in these flats work so you can imagine how much he is getting in rent every week!

I agree with Lainie. I've seen loads of properties where they are owned by just a couple of people. They deliberatley take on DSS so they can hammer the rent. As they own loads of properties it limits the numbers for working people and as such general rent prices increase. If the Government were to limit rent to the equivelent Council house it won't be worth the LandLords buying the properties and as such free up more properties for the general market. None of this splitting a house into 4 seperate rooms and each person 400 per month rent, just say it's a 4 bedroom property therefore the maximum Government money going into this complete property will be the same as a 4 bedroom Council House.
