Toorpakai Saiedi, 38, who fled Afghanistan, yesterday admitted hiding a bank account containing significant savings.
Because benefit officials knew nothing of the secret cash they agreed to pay out housing benefit, working tax credit and Council Tax credit that Saiedi's family was not entitled to.
She was handed a staggering ?170,000 a year in benefits - ?150,000 of which was paid to a private landlord in rent for the luxury townhouse, which has a huge garden, two kitchens and three shower rooms.
Judge Jonathan Lowen told Saiedi, who communicated using an interpreter, she could be jailed when he sentences her later.
She arrived in the UK in 2001 a year after husband Haji. They said they were wealthy farmers living near Kabul and forced to flee by the Taliban.
The scandal of Saiedi's luxury home was exposed by The Sun two years ago.
