This means female celebs like fearne cotton,britney spears and sexy tennis babe Anna Kournikova, all 29, already feel their best days are behind them.
But older chaps like liam neeson,mickey rourke and david hasselhoff, all 58, are only just starting to feel their age.
A quarter of women say they felt old as soon as they spotted their first grey hairs. But men only think they are old when they can no longer perform in the bedroom.
It is thought the age difference is down to societys obsession with youth and beauty.
Psychology Professor Cary Cooper, of Lancaster University, said: In our society the attractiveness of women is quite important.
For some reason, its important for women to look presentable.
Magazines are all about youth and are filled with young, attractive women. Women then start to perceive themselves as old when they no longer feel like this, when they dont feel trendy or fashionable.
Men, on the other hand, dont have to be good-looking. It doesnt concern them.
The study, by Avalon Funeral Plans, also found 10% of women say they feel old when they think their skin has started to sag.
The companys Mike Cooper said: What these results show is that age is truly in the mind. Youre only as old as you feel.
