    Is it right to mess with the climate?

    just my opinion but "man" thinks he can change this planet, heat it up, cool it down. "he" ,one of these days, is gonna find out that the tiniest virus can wipe him out and the world will roll on without him, and all the organic veggies in the world wont save him.

      I think they have already effected the environment. Isn't that why they are trying to 'fix' it ?

      There is very little doubt that humans have been responsible for the extinction of many species.

                probably, but one small meteorite in the amazon rainforest could probably do more damage in a few minutes. my point was that humans think they are the be all end all of existence on this planet and nature can do more damage in one day than we have done in our entire time here.

                just for an example i go out and boil the kettle for a coffee. i leave it for an hour, what happens. nature takes its course and in an hour that kettle is full of cold water and same as if i never existed.

                ive a healthy respect for the planet, i just dont buy into the self important bs that man is more powerful than mother earth

                having said all that when i watch programs about half the rainforest being chopped down to make Ikea furniture it makes me weep.

                  But if a billion people do that then it makes a difference. That power has to come from somewhere and gets output as heat at the end of the day. Problems like climate change can only be bought under control by cooperation.

                  Other problem is that move of manufacturing to asia has only shifted the problem and countries like china and india have some level of exclusion from climate control treaties.

                  I don't think anyone is saying that man is more important then mother nature, however its pretty clear that man has done damage to mother nuture which makes it difficult for man to continue to survive as is and that is something mother nature is not going to be able to fix by itself before man finds it difficult to survive globally.

                  That is not just man, all animals are under threat.

                    well, i still wouldnt believe all the hype. 65 million years ago an ateroid hit mexico and caused mass extinction.(2 million tiimes more powerful than the most powerful man made explosion if wiki is to be believed)
                    Mrs nature managed to get back on track just fine after that

                      I can't remember the exact little number, but the rest is a direct quote from a friend who has a Masters in Oceanology & Marine Science....

                      "Blaming man for CO2 emissions contributing to global warming is a pile of shit. 98.6% of all global CO2 emissions comes from the seas & oceans. That's before you start looking at all the other land animals & natural CO2 emitters"

                      As stated above, I'm not sure on the decimal number. But he did say 98.(something)%

                      But then the tree hugging hippies will then claim that if we didn't over fish the seas there would be less plankton to release CO2 into the atmosphere.

                      It's not even CO2 that's causing the problem. Methane is one of the worst gasses that does effect the global temperature.

                      So if you want to stop global warming STOP FARTING!....... Clench everyone...

                        The world's finances, are screwed
                        The worlds fish stocks are screwed
                        The Atmosphere is screwed (thanks to Japan for the boost last month)

                        So if you wish to help, then be reincartated as a light bulb, where you can easily be unscrewed.

                          we can only test data from the last 100 years or so which is pretty insignificant since we are about 13 billion years old

                          we have had many ice ages as a planet the last was around a million years ago and finished 10,000 years ago apparantly

                          how did the ice melt was it global warming did we leave a fridge door open or put too much water in the kettle ?

                          in the scheme of planet earth we are a tiny speck on its existance we have no power against nature we are at the mercy of the sun if the planet wants to get hotter or colder and kill everything off it will

                          its being doing it since before we were here and nothing we can do will change a thing

                          what i want to know though is why animals nowadays are smaller than dinosaurs but look similar ?
