i have to say, i know the shell protesters have probably drove the cops nutz but thats a step too far. if his attitude to rape is that its a joke, what chance does a woman have going into report one to him.
if he said that about my wife or daughter id put the grin on the other side of his face jail or no jail

They'll be ~~~~ed for that, the rape crisis centre are onto now too.

All of them involved have been assigned to desk duties and are to have no contact with the public.
This is as far as this saga will go, when you consider the number of innocent pedestrians who have been mowed down and killed by both working gardai and off duty gardai and all cases have never resulted in a conviction against any garda.
I don't even have to go outside of my own town in search of a case of drunken off duty garda mowing down a motor cyclist and never having to appear in court even though his on duty collegues attended the scene.

Slightly off topic but-the Government and the gardai have to be on shells payroll when you consider the amount of time and force used by gardai against protesters.
The documentary 'The Pipe' gives a good insight into what is happening in Rossport and the tape was the fault of the garda who confiscated the camera and accidentally turned on the camera when storing it in the patrol car.
