The plant was closed when MG Rover collapsed as a business in 2005, with much of the site being demolished and regenerated. But, following the acquisition of MG by Chinese manufacturer SAIC, a portion of the facility has been redeveloped for the new company MG Motor.
There is now a modern technical centre employing the designers of upcoming MG models ? including the MG6 ? as well as a production line. However, MG Motor is aware that the family hatchback market in the UK is one of the most fiercely competitive segments, and is starting small. Components sent to the Midlands from China will be assembled here at a rate of 20 cars per day.
The MG6 sports fastback will sell for between ?15,495 and ?18,995 and a new five-seater saloon priced at up to ?20,000 is also in the pipeline for sale launch in the summer.

About time British should be proud of manufacturing British cars again in Leyland.
