    KFC trial Halal chicken

Just noticed this on KFC's website:

KFC Restaurants United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland - Our Halal Trial

I'm a bit disgusted if I'm honest. I don't care what your religious doctrines dictate, there's a minimum standard of ethics we should all strive to meet when dealing with the animals we eat. KFC maintain it's humane and that the animals are stunned and desensitised before slaughter, but of course they would say that. Kill the animals before you slaughter them ffs! It's basic humanity.

Again, we see idiotic, primitive, barbaric religious bullshit triumph over common decency.

i don't know why it says republic of ireland because there aren't any restaurants in the republic of ireland on that list?

and quite clearly KFC are doing it for the money. they thought they might shift more product in certain stores, and where it isn't increasing sales they are dropping it. so it's a basic supply and demand thing.

theres an article somewhere (not sure where but if i remember i will post it) it proves the Asda/KFC and other giant corporations selling "halal" meat isnt actually Halal, like Eva said, its all a money making scam.

How would you tell the difference? "Hey Sally I was wondering if you could get in touch with this chicken"

difference is either you are present while the the chicken is slaughtered, or in this country is governed by a proper company such as HMC, the company Asda and KFC use is made up by themselves

Does it affect the taste much? If you are walking into KFC and asking to see it slaughtered, you're not doing it right. It comes in a big round tub drenched in saturated fats. Tastes divine though.

The requirement is that an "authorised person" is present at the slaughter to recite a verse from the Koran. The animal must be alive when it's throat is cut and it is drained of all its blood. That's Halal.

Surely you don't need to be a "religion hating", tree-hugging hippy to appreciate how despicable this is??

Protesting is a democratic right in the UK and it's not just for the great unwashed. If you'd been alive in the early 1900s, would you have told the suffragettes to stop whinging and get a job??

They could recite poetry to it if they so desire, death is unpleasant no matter how it is administered. There are far more important things you could be concerned about, like eating KFC for instance.
Not saying i agree with the practice, just wouldn't be something i was upset about.

Plenty of hate filled Islamic protesters around, sure they could find better ways to spend their time.

Some deaths are a lot more unpleasant than others. I think we, as a society, should all be concerned when a helpless creature is subjected to unnecessary cruelty in the name of a silly superstition.

I'm curious, what type of issues in the world today upset or concern you?

It is. If you read the page you'll see that it refers to last year.

We also debated the whole halal meat thing in October last year.
He who laughs last probably didn't get the joke.

Old news as is the fact that if you are buying chicken from a supermarket then it possibly will be halal even if its not marked as such. As is that fact that chickens are stunned in the same way as non-halal meat. The only different is that the machine which slits the throat is 'blessed'.
