This may be a little harsh, but I'm still reeling from GMB's post about the dog shot 40 times in the head.

Most of this 'new technology' is old news. Most of them revolve around tablets, which are doomed. The more people see the limitations of the design, the more they will go for laptop/netbook based items.

Wow, Intel Atom based tablets, that will end up running windows 7. What you will end up with is a Laptop/netbook with no keyboard but all the other connections & freedoms... like USB ports, expandable memory, card readers, full flash support.

In fact I believe Dell are just releasing exactly that, a laptop in a tablet design. Unless they are lying in the advert.

Then we have the 3D phone....

specs of these phones will be Android 2.2 (Froyo), 1GHz processor, 9.6-megapixel camera (model 003SH), 720p video capture, 8.0-megapixel camera (model 005SH), up to 32GB Micro SD card storage support.
This is already outdated. Android is now on Gingerbread 2.3.3 with 2.3.4 due for release shortly, top end phones now have 1.2Ghz dual core processors, Sony Ericsson X10 & Nokia N8 both have 12mp cameras, 1080p video recording on most new top end phones & all support upto 64GB micro SD (except the Iphone as they are a bunch idiots who don't think beyond their own profits).
All it has is a 3D screen that will have limited support. I've played with a friends Nintendo 3DS, very cool, but also very limited. Until someone comes up with a way you can print 3D photos (similar to the old hologram stuff from years ago) it's not much use.

    Mini rant over.

Having just played with the asus transformer, I have to disagree about tablets being doomed. Its about the best of both worlds that you are going to get at the moment and with MS due to port Windows 8 to mobile CPU and mobile CPU already planned to go 4 core and faster the line has already started to blur between the two.

I would also say that Atom Z is still way to power hungry for mobile devices, though I know that 22nm technology is around the corner. Intel's purchase of wind river, infineon, etc points to a single chip solution with integrated HD video encoding and playback and 3G/4G.

Let's put one thing straight... Apple 'invented' the tablet, which Steve Jobs claimed filled the gap in the market.

There was no gap in the market, they just created an oversized Iphone that couldn't compete with laptops & netbooks.... So they put all their effort into marketing it for the Isheep.

Now everyone else is jumping onboard.

Are you really trying to tell me that there's nothing you on a laptop you can't do with a tablet?

Lets use the Ipad to compare..

Ipad comes with either 16GB, 32GB or 64GB of memory for storage.

A standard laptop has a 250GB hard drive & 2-4GB of processing memory.

Ipad has wi-fi & bluetooth.... So have laptops, & both can support 3G connections

Ipad supports email attachment types: .jpg, .tiff, .gif (images); .doc and .docx (Microsoft Word); .htm and .html (web pages); .key (Keynote); .numbers (Numbers); .pages (Pages); .pdf (Preview and Adobe Acrobat); .ppt and .pptx (Microsoft PowerPoint); .txt (text); .rtf (rich text format); .vcf (contact information); .xls and .xlsx (Microsoft Excel)

A laptop is only limited by the mail server the user chooses to use.

        The Ipad has a 30pin dock connector & a 3.5mm stereo jack.

Do I really need to list all the ports on a laptop!?

Tablets are just oversized phones, without the phone (except the Galaxy Tab)

        God dam I'm bitchy today.

Tablets excel at media playback plus they are very useful where you don't have the space to use a netbook/laptop. Multi touch screen is dead easy to use and you don't have to wait for O/S to load, etc, etc to do a 2 minute lookup. Smartphones have their place as well but there is definately a market for something bigger then the phone but smaller then laptop. You list a whole bunch of heavy duty apps but for 99% of tablet owners they are not going to use the tablet for those types of apps as they will own both tablet and other computing device.

I am a heavy netbook user and after playing with the transformer I can definately see a market for it.

BTW, Apple definately didn't invent the tablet and no it wasn't star trek either. Tablets have been around for over a decade. What apple did was market them properly plus they had their army of sheep to help.

WE had tablets in work long before apple... If I remember rightly we had a Nokia tablets. They where a bit crud for personal use - but were absolutely great for work.

Guess I need to use a less subtle form of sarcasm. Apple don't 'invent' anything, they just use stupid amounts of marketing to make the Isheep believe they did.

Take the Ipod. Years before the mp3 format even existed the idea of a portable music player that didn't use tapes or disks was 'invented' by some un-named person in the BBC.

The saturday morning kids show 'Going Live' ran a competition when the lucky winner would get a prototype music player that held the music digitally & was voice controlled. You say the artist & track title & it would play it. All in a box no bigger than a mars bar.

Of course it never really existed & was an April fools joke. But the idea was born & it was only time before someone made it happen.

I dont really see where this is going,as far as i can see there is a place in the market for all these goodies, everybody loves there smart phone, most ppl would love to have a tablet, but cant afford one, they are very popular and well known about, due to being widely used by tv presenters etc,as for laptop/netbooks,most ppl with an interest in computing/media emailing, you name it ! Most ppl have one or access to one,add to the fact PC's are more common in households than common sense,then...you get the picture

We on the whole have a huge appetite for all things techy, just personnal preference as to what way peeps go.

What do we use this technology for? Playing games? surfing the net? I wish the technology would be used for something better than facebook and twitter.
