Should our bins be emptied each week?

Government plans to force councils in England to bring back weekly bin collections are to be dropped.

Ministers were told the cost of the pledge, made in the Conservative?s manifesto, would be about ?100m a year.

More than half of councils now collect domestic rubbish once a fortnight.

Some authorities say weekly collections work best, while others argue that the alternate weekly collection of different types of waste is the most effective way to increase recycling.

My opinion if we could come up with a service where we could collect food rubbish weekly and take away the recyclable stuff fortnightly, that would be best because of over producing the population of rats and other diseases, and are we running out of landfill? I think money they collect from businesses collecting rubbish is more then they spend.

Tools owned: Hammer, Chisel, Crowbar, Punch, Chainsaw, Cutter and Brain!!!

Did you know People will question all the good things they hear about you but believe all the bad without a second thought.

Guess we're the lucky ones. Our council never stopped weekly collections, mine will of been emptied today...both general waste & recycling, garden waste collections are fortnightly.

It often makes me wonder what other councils are doing with their money.

I received a letter at the end of Summer last year saying the succesfull trial of emptying our garden waste bins every 3 weeks means it will now be the norm. Two weeks later I got a letter explaining they were going to trial a 3 weekly bin emptying excercise. Looks like the printers printed the letters in the wrong order. The cnuts had already decided upon it anyway.

Ok they tell you that this year council tax will be for example ?1000 that include empty of your bins on a regular basis, then they tell you because we have no more money the bins will be emptied every two weeks, I consider that as the council have broken the agreement with us so can we win in the court?

fortnightly is useless, i would defo like to see weekly collections again...

the full system needs looking at tbh.

a single person living alone gets the same bin space as a family.....
that can't be right can it?

also it is free to go to local "recycling centre" (formally known as dumps or tips ) and get rid of your rubbish there....

alot of these places have closed down round my area and the nearest one is 20 minutes drive away......

so familes with money who can afford to run a car can easily dump their rubbish for free,
whereas worse off families or people who for whatever reason rely on public transport are just stuck with it.......
            cant be right either.....

then again maybe we just need to generate less rubbish.....

just like in the good old days before the councils started preaching to us about what we could throw out.
