Runaway dads should be shamed like drink-drivers, says David Cameron

David Cameron says it 'simply isn't acceptable' for mothers to be left to bring up children on their own.

Fathers who abandon their families should be "stigmatised" by society in the same way as drink-drivers, David Cameron has said.

Before the election, Nick Clegg described Tory proposals to introduce a tax cut of at least ?150 for married couples as "patronising drivel that belong in the Edwardian age".

Even when parents were separated, he said, fathers had a duty to support their children "financially and emotionally" ? spending time with them at weekends, attending nativity plays and taking an interest in their education.

I think governments that give away loads of our hard earned cash to other countries, and are incapable of even locking up all our thieves,rapists and paedophiles,and who seem totally powerless against the illegal immigrants and who treat anyone else who isnt a member of parliament with utter contempt should be `shamed` as well..you self serving pigs at the trough,lift your greedy snouts up and do your jobs...kick out the undesirables and lock down our borders,hang the molesters and create some work,even if we only build prisons for gods sake.TOSSPOTS the lot of you...

Anyone with outstanding fines or refusing to pay their dues should lose all rights to a Passport to start with. If they can't pay their fines they shouldn't be able to affprd an oversees holiday so won't have a need for a Passport anyway.

If they still refuse to pay up deny them a driving licence and if caught behing the wheel oif a vehicle it should be impounded and sold to pay off the fines.

Third offence they should be unable to get a landline, TV licence or Satellite service.

Take their privilages away from them and they'll soon pay up.

Remember listening to a conversation on radio, where a member of the 'fathers for justice' group was explaining how difficult it was for fathers to get access to see their children.. Even when fathers win a court order, at tremendous financial cost.. the authorities still wouldn't prosecute mothers who refused to give access..despite the court order. Their excuse being "it wouldn't be in the interests of the child, if we lock up the mothers"

Should these mothers be named and shamed in the same way Cameron suggests fathers should?

I would say no to this, Hey, there is family problems that deserve a solution here, but the one the torys are suggesting, is not the answer... It just highlights their own ignorant and arrogant attitude when it is suggested that one parent...the man, should be compared to a drunk driver..

If the government was interested in helping... then we need to know why Britain has one of the highest lone parent numbers in Europe.. and do more to prevent family break ups where children are involved in the first place.

I now have a child that doesn't know his father and she don't care to tell him either.

The choice shouldnt be left down to the man only. Women who dont want to get pregnant wont. The ones that do will. Most likely on a friday/saturday night.

Interesting proposition.

I have a daughter I've never seen. I'd been with her mother for about 2-3 months. All the warning signs were there.. she wanted a kid before she was 30 (27 at the time) & she always saw herself as being single for the rest of her life.
Low & behold she fell pregnant & less than a month later dumped me & cut all communication.

I've left it as it is, time will resolve all. Just stuck with child support.

I agree there are some oxygen thieves out there that don't pay for anything so don't give them anything. If they receive a fine take it direct from their wages or Giro. None of this ?2 per week crud. Take the lot in as few payments as possible. Take away any human rights they have incase they decide to steal to get by. If they get caught and assaulted they've gave up their rights to the protection of the law.
