I can only speak from an Irish point of view and no offence is meant to any member.
As bobwill pointed out what went on in the 50's and 60's and even into the 70's was adoption or abortion.Either way the child was the main loser. At the time the girl would be branded a whore.Thousands of Irish girls 'took the boat for Hollyhead' for abortions.
As society moved on it became more acceptable for an 'unmarried' girl to have a child and the gradual beginning of care and benefits began and the stigma of 'whore' was changed to unmarried mother to single parent.
The up side is that the baby survived death or life in an institution until adopted (as it was very hard to trace where your baby had gone to after it was 'given up for adoption)
The problem now is one of money, and while it was ok for government to throw money at a problem years ago,the money isn't there now.
It is society and government that has brought us to this point.

        Ohhhh.. thewizardofodds

I've not forgotten your post mate.... and seeing you've quoted me (like this)... Just gotta say...how is race of any importance? You're saying that there would be a large proportion of 'black fathers' named and shamed.. I don't know the statistics in this... but even if you're correct... I'd say...of what relevance is this?

In my attempts to analyse and understand the 'benefits system', I'm not relying on any statistics of any kind.... I've got plenty of real life examples, and none of the people I know are of any non-white ethnic origins, shall we say....

          quoted you like what mate?
My post about race is still there , I was refferring to my post regarding the pm I had from lainie where she was making proper crazy claims about people getting ?1500 a WEEK tax credits etc etc .
The only importance race has is what I said in the post.
The FACTS are that the percentage of black males that are runaway fathers is a lot higher than the percentage of white males that are runaway fathers.
All i said was there would be complaints from black communities if the measures in the op are implemented.
Nothing racist or anything , just making a valid comment.
Just because the people YOU know are NOT from non - white backgrounds does that mean that all runaway dads are white?
Dont really understand your point mate.

How many BLACK people live in your area?
          Where do you live?

Ok... sorry mate, the word 'quote' ... poor choice of word.
Just feel that someone's ethic original is of no relevance... that's all..
See you tomorrow... ... discuss it further then...need to sleep now.
