What if the NHS takes your organs and then privately treats rich overseas patients and deprives those who cannot afford it. Makes up the NHS deficit.

What if you were dying and you needed a transplant or you kid for that matter, What would you thoughts be then?

In all honestly If someone is not prepared to give up their organs, should they be allowed the gift of life from some other persons organs?

Opt out is forced on us everyday by big companies & invasive terms & conditions from just about every online transaction we make.
We accept these without giving it a second thought most of the time. Why should organ donation be any different? If this was brought in it might make people become a little more active against these practises.

I honestly don't see the problem, no one is having anything forced upon them apart from making a choice of yes or no,
I have had personal experience of organ transplant through a family member, who was a young girl at the time of the transplant, she is now married and has 2 young children,
when I die my body serves no purpose except worm food, they can have anything they want.

but i don't think it should be put out as default "YES" too much room for abuse there
opt in and sign is the only civil and fair way to be honest
if they need organs they should be given freely and sanctioned by the donor in signing and ticking the opt in box
safer legally and fairer IMHO

if they don't sign and tick the box then leave the organs or ask the next of kin
it shouldn't be assumed to harvest anything without a definitive "yes"

I'm all for the opt out. If any of my organs would help save the life of someone in need once I'm gone then its going to bring joy and relief to a family who knows it could be young people.

I'd just pity those who got gmbs liver.

Everyone should think about this as it could be your family that could need an organ at sometime or another

Why should we pick?

Well it forces us to make a call that probably a lot just don't see as an important decision or until its too late.

So it will prob make as a result more donors on the register and as a result of this make a family happy that a loved one has been saved.

Is that not enough of a reason.

Are people so blind to see the benefits of this?

Are we that selfish of a race that even in death we cannot help others who need it most?

as i said i disagree with the opt out, but i signed my organ card over 20 years ago and always tick yes on my driving licence just in case, (plus my family know my wishes(which is everthing but my eyes, cant bear the thought of cutting them dead or alive)).
If they implemented the nudge scheme it would be enough. tick to opt out is the same sneaky method websites and companies use to send you spam and junk mail. typical of governments to adopt it.

alive / dead is a very gray line, its not black and white unless of course there is someone wanting your organs, this may speed up the decision.

I don't think it would take much to educate some to the benfits of Organ Donorship and to give them a choice, however I believe the choice should work both ways. You opt in you sign up to the possibility of receiving an organ if you need one. You opt out you only get one if there is a spare one.

The Medical profession is already looking at cutting operations to those with self inflicted damge. Fat fnuckers, alcoholics, smokers etc. So why not look at this avenue also.
