Virgin Media has announced a successful trial of 1.5Gb/s cable broadband - the world's fastest, it claims - using the same technology as used to provide 100Mb/s broadband to home users.
The small-scale trial has taken place at Old Street in London, an area known as 'Silicon Roundabout' - after the somewhat more famous Silicon Valley in the US - which is home to a variety of high-tech companies including a co-working environment known as TechHub.
The trial saw selected businesses - including TechHub - given access to a broadband connection offering 1.5Gb/s downstream and 150Mb/s upstream transfer rates, some 240 times faster than the average broadband connection in the UK and 15 times faster than Virgin Media's own flagship 100Mb/s service.
