Westminster Housing Scheme To Penalise Unemployed Gains Traction

Councils around the UK could roll out a scheme pioneered by Westminster Council, in which those who work are prioritised for housing benefit.

The scheme penalises the unemployed by pushing them further down the queue.

Families currently applying for housing benefit in Westminster are assessed on a point scheme. From January, an additional 50 points will be available for those in work or who can show they have been actively looking for work.

Other criteria include medical needs (250 points) and overcrowded accommodation (300 points).

The additional 50 points for those that contribute to the economy could see hundreds of Westminster families move up the waiting list




If you're unemployed or on benefits, you ~~~~ed.

They would stop short of making them homeless.

Excellent, for once some real encouragement to look for work or be in work. Maybe they'll introduce points for those who have kids with a partner and deduct points for those who can't name the Father.

Agree there could be a number of reasons why one would not want to name the father, could be abusive, rape, commited crimes against children.

Its easy to jump on the band wagon and think great but decisions as such need to be looked in to in more depth.

There is plenty of work our goverment could be creating its by time they start doing so and start putting people in work. As for the ones that dont want to work then they should be made to work or face charges.

Theres homeless woman out there also waiting to be housed so I dont think sex really comes in to it. Be different if the woman was pregnant.

A woman would be put up in a B+B if no housing can be found, I was told this from someone who works for the housing dept of a council.

May just be different between councils then mate also Scotland controls its own Housing laws so they may be different than England, wales, Ireland.

I know a guy he is the size of the big daddy and has been looking for job well over 4 years and married with 5 children?s, no qualifications.

When he goes looking for work because of his size he can not get inside the reception door so I would right him off.

He has spend all his time in special made hostels big doors food regularly and guess who is paying for all that?
