    Food tax, whatever next

I suppose one country had to be first, oddly enough I thought that the UK would get in there

BBC News - Denmark introduces world's first food fat tax

Don't manufacture your way out of a recession, create new taxes...

    this statement is true

They say salt, sugar and refined carbohydrates are more detrimental to health and should be tackled instead.

wasnt many fat people before we started to eat more of these

But the aim isn't to tackle it, it appears to be to create more revenue from people who eat.

If the aim of the tax were to tackle the problem then the government would tax the suppliers of the foods containing high concentrations.

its insane, and as said above just a revenue generating exercise. if they were concerned about health they would be taxing refined sugar/carbohydrates to the hilt. fatty foods have little to do with being fat, sugar does.
i dont doubt their politicians know this.

i suspect its more to do with the fact that they are driving more people to eat carbs cause its already a massive profit industry.

now, pass me my pound of butter please.

Bit extreme but atleast they're doing something to tackle the problem. I expect the UK to follow because of the money that can be made from it. Soon we will be taxed to breathe air

I can't see anywhere that they're doing something to help, other than help raise tax revenues from the people rather than the industries that add such large quantities.

l dont think u can blame companies for selling large quantities ? people could use there brains and eat the right amount , u dont have to large anything if u dont want to ,

if u look at a large McDonald's u know a burger fries and large coke is high , if u had a double burger no fries and diet coke its a good meal

by the way i wouldn't drink Diet Coke if i was you, it has a chemical called aspitame which is a sugar substitute but was once used as a poison in ancient times. It's still bad for you most of Europe have banned it from use apart from the UK. Its also found in Coke Zero, Robinson Fruit Shoot's and other Robinson drinks.

It can cause stomach Cancer, blindness later on in life and many other causes

Well the companies are the ones that make up the food. I'm sure if they were taxed on the ingredients they'd change them very quickly to what the government consider more healthy. By taxing the companies direct it will end the manufacture of so called unhealthy food. Not taxing at source just allows the rich to be unhealthy and continues to create revenue for the government.

if it's really about promoting healthier eating why don't they use all the revenue to subsidise fresh fruit and veg so they're dirt cheap ?

                            cheers
