Revealed: First photo of shoe bomber Richard Reid in US Supermax prison
Leaning nonchalantly against a wall in a prison-issue tracksuit, this is British shoe bomber Richard Reid in the first photo to show him inside his American ?Supermax? jail.
The Al Qaeda fanatic is serving life for trying to murder 197 people on a transatlantic jet by detonating explosives in his shoes. He is currently threatening to starve himself to death
Supermax jail set in the middle of the desert and equipped with motion detectors, laser beams and pressure pads, it is seen as escape-proof.
The 37-acre complex holds 400 of America?s most dangerous convicts, kept in solitary confinement for 23 hours a day. Former prisoners have described it as a living tomb.
Terrorist Reid has vowed to starve himself to death because he claims he is being ?inhumanely treated?. The 38-year-old, jailed in 2003, issued his threat from his solitary cell in a series of letters.
The British-born radical wrote to his father Robin in the UK, saying he will go on hunger strike unless his demands are met.
He says: ?I believe he deliberately made a hash of it and tried to get caught before he hurt anyone. If he had been serious, he?d have gone to the toilets to set off his bomb.

Hunger strike Mr Jeid,
You are free to go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
