Actually, no, the laws concerning ceremonial knives/daggers were written in from the start as were various other exemptions. The rules aren't being changed to accomodate anybody, they are simply being applied the way they were written.

The relevant law seems to be -

It is an offence for any person, without lawful authority or good reason, to have with him in a public place, any article which has a blade or is sharply pointed except for a folding pocket-knife which has a cutting edge to its blade not exceeding 3 inches

The phrase 'good reason' gives quite a lot of leaway and is meant to allow for ceremonial/religeous uses as well as thing like tradesman where a knife is essential for there normal job. It also allows for uses like having a knife & Fork inside a tent pitched on a public campsite, which under a strict interpretation, could be viewed as illegal.

Whether or not you agree that anybody should be allowed to have a knife inside the olympics is another matter entirely. Its not a matter of law but of the rules that the various olympic committee's choose to apply to their venues.

Tried to ignore this thread save myself a rant but here we go:

It is a bloody joke if people cannot come in to our country and respect our wishes, ways, moral's and laws then they should not come! I would not go to another country and expect there law to be changed for me.

Why is the UK such a push over other countries would tell them 'if you dont like it dont come here'. Instead we bend the rules, get pushed over and the people of the UK do not have a say in the matter.
