Is this justice whats your view

Well here in scotland we have had two high profile court cases in the past two days. One involves two teenagers who posted messages on facebook trying to incite riots in scotland during the rioting this summer. The other was a man who was seeking revenge against the killer of his girlfriend. He waited for him outside court and poured petrol over him then tried to set him alight. In both cases they were found guilty and sentenced to 3 years imprisonment.

In my view i see the man who poured petrol on his girlfriends killer as attempted murder and therefore much much more serious than some kids posting silly messages on facebook asking folk to out and riot. Especially when no such rioting occured. Is this a sign that the sentencing of these boys is disporportionate. What is your thoughts on this.

Well, at least the guy with petrol is understandable even though it was a bit daft for him to do it outside the court. The way he went about it does indicate he was a little 'unbalanced' at the time. I suspect the relatively low sentence reflects that.

The lads on the other hand were deliberately conspiring to cause rioting. It doesn't really matter whether or not they thought it was a 'giggle', they've still commited the crime. They could of ended up causing a lot of property damage or even deaths for their bit of fun. The sentence again seems appropriate.

The kids trying to start riots being put in jail is a waste of a prison cell and taxpaying money.

its a slap in the face to child abuse and rape victims that someone 'wanting others to vandalise and steal' are punished more severely than their attackers. but then there's a whole list of criminals and their crimes that i could list that are more jail worthy than this.

isn't the first and wont be the last we hear of people being reprimanded over what was said on facebook :/

funnily enough, though, a girl in england was let off on the exact same thing because she was 'joking'

its not good inciting greedy selfish riots and they do deserve sum jail as its ordinary folks property that getts abused during these incidents.
now if they were callin for a riot to overthrow this corrupt regime we live under then they shoulda got a chocky medal!
i bet that petrol pourer guys gutted getting time n he didnt even light the dandy up

I think the guy who poured petrol on his girlfriends killer shouldve got a pat on the back. As for the kids inciting riots we have to show the youth of today this stuff wont be tolerated. Also they have upped the jail sentence for carrying a knife to 6 year. Bout ~~~~ing time we clamped down.

I sympathise with the guy who tried to set fire to the scum that killed his partner. He was obviously unbalanced or he'd have planned it better but he did break the law and put other lives at risk. I'm just glad he got a minimal sentence.

As for the 2 tits that tried to start a riot, the sooner Joe public start sticking up for ourselves and sorting out these type of immature idiots the sooner we can free up our Prisons for real criminals. Personaly I'd have taken all their possesions of them and gave it to charity to see how they feel when they lose everything like some innocent people did in the riots. Prison is wasted on them.

Both sentences seem about right to me.

I feel really sorry for the guy who lost his gf.I think he got too much time for it,considering what he's going through.6 months would have got the point home.As for the other numpties, they didn't get enough time. What could have ensued,is unknown, and should have been factored in,if it wasn't already.

the prisons and judges took a very harsh stance on the rioters

i know that the courts operated 24 hours during the riots and where i live there was 101 cases in one night, the judge sent 97 of them straight to prison on remand!

in fact i know there are alot of people still inside awaiting a trial date

i also know they havent been let out of their cels much and have been refused the chance for jobs in prison

the guys from bristol (i think) who started the facebook riots there.... appealed their sentence and the judged denied them a reduced sentence.....they got 6 years....and were first time offenders!

it is harsh but thats the stance the justice system took on the rioters

i know all this cus i have family memebers who are solicitors and have mates locked up inside!

Isnt it great how the justice system can be tough on someone who talks about violence on facebooku, meanwhile guys who run around the streets of glasgow carrying 6 inch blades and machetes up their jackets get off with a slap on the wrist.

Johnboy,I understand what you're saying. However, the social media,ie facebook ,twitter, etc, are a much more powerful media and inciteful source than a guy on the street trying to get people going.

Look at what's going on in the middle east,Egypt, etc. All stemming from an unhappy, savvy YOUNG population, with a convenient outlet,ie social media.

Pen is mightier than the sword I'm afraid,in this case anyway.

                            Ok,rant off !!

The problem I have with it is look at other crimes and see how long they get. Case in question about the pedophile c**ts that had their sentance halfed to 4 year. And two young fuds get 3 years.

Yes punish but let's do something more constructive with them.
