Johnboy,I understand what you're saying. However, the social media,ie facebook ,twitter, etc, are a much more powerful media and inciteful source than a guy on the street trying to get people going.
Look at what's going on in the middle east,Egypt, etc. All stemming from an unhappy, savvy YOUNG population, with a convenient outlet,ie social media.
Pen is mightier than the sword I'm afraid,in this case anyway.
Ok,rant off !!
I take on board what you are saying mate but surely there are loads of cardboard gangsters on facebook twitter etc its a place where you can say what you like and be who you want. If its going to be policed then all threats against anyone have to be followed up not just threats about rioting just because the government want to make an example of a few folk. I just cant cant understand how any sane person can say this is equal justice- For me that would only be the case if rioting had occured in dundee then they would have been the instigaters. Some people just talk alot of shite on social media and these boys already said thats what they did.Comment

The fact that no rioting actually occured has been taken into consideration, thus the relatively light sentence. If something had occured then they could potentially be facing life imprisonment !
Regardless of whether or not any rioting resulted, the fact of the matter is that the crime was commited. Conspiracy and incitement crimes really are what they say they are - the conspiracy to commit a crime or the incitement of others to commit a crime..
All threats against a person or property, whether they be in person or online, are a crime. In an ideal world they should all be investigated but its obviously not practical to look at everything. In practice only the most serious are prosecutedIf its going to be policed then all threats against anyone have to be followed up....Comment

Ok then so what about all the people who posted hatred of celtic manager neil lennon last year all those who said they wished someone would kill him or that they would kill him themselves if they got the chance is that not just as serious as what these guys done. Believe me if you looked at the rangers forums what you seen would disgust you and hundreds were saying stuff like that. Thing is the police wont touch them because it would take too much money and time to track em all down as i keep saying these guys are being made an example of and its disgusting. What they said there is worse getting said in forums around the uk every day. Police the internet yes if you have to but it has be done across the board, not just picking and choosing a few folk here and there to face prosecution.
Ps there was no conspirecy there was no one that conspired to commit any crime, just a daft couple of teens probably drunk who posted messages saying lets riot in dundee, with no interest whatsoever whether those riots came to fruition or not.Last edited by johnboy1974; 15 December, 2011, 11:55.Comment
