    Police 'seek to prosecute Huhne'

Police have recommended that both Energy Secretary Chris Huhne and his ex-wife be charged over claims that he dodged a speeding penalty.

Detectives believe they have presented the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) with enough evidence to charge Mr Huhne with speeding and, more seriously, attempting to pervert the course of justice, according to tomorrow's edition of The Times.

A file sent to the CPS is understood to say that Vicky Pryce should also be charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice after claims that she accepted penalty points on her licence after her husband was caught by a speed camera on the M11, the newspaper said.

It is known that prosecutors are very close to reaching a decision on whether to charge the Cabinet minister but are currently trying to obtain evidence from the Sunday Times newspaper.

The newspaper is to bring a legal challenge early in the new year over Essex Police's bid to obtain emails related to the case. An application for the newspaper to seek judicial review has been fixed for January 20.

The case concerns emails between Ms Pryce and Isabel Oakeshott, the newspaper's political editor.

Essex Police obtained a production order to seize the emails at a private hearing at Chelmsford Crown Court in October. The newspaper then decided to seek judicial review of the police move - leading to the prosecution decision being put on hold.

Police began their probe after claims emerged that Ms Pryce accepted penalty points on his behalf. The speeding offence is alleged to have taken place in 2003 when the then-MEP was driving home from Stansted Airport after flying back from the European Parliament.

Liberal Democrat Mr Huhne - who left Ms Pryce for another woman last year - has denied the allegations. Early this month Mr Huhne said he was "very confident" the investigation would be "cleared up".

He said early this month: "I would love to see this cleared up as soon as possible. I want to see the Crown Prosecution Service obviously get to the bottom of this. They need to do whatever they have to do in terms of pursuing (the case)."

A spokesman for the CPS said: "We have asked Essex Police to provide us with further material in relation to this case, this is now subject to a court hearing involving Essex Police and the Sunday Times which is due to be heard in January."

Ok his wife accepted penalty points on her licence I would have that was the end, like we all do stupid thing some time in life.

But this matter is not going off, this is a witch hunt if you ask me!!!!!!!!!!

Sunday Times just like news of the world trying to sell news paper and make money fast look what happed to news of the world.

Hope he gets found guilty - then some kind of silly fine and banned for years

The whole episode stinks if you ask me.

Does it matter if he or she was driving? The bottom line is some 1 admitted an offence and paid the fine and accepted penalty points.

Rule of law is if some 1 paid blood money to the love once you can walk out free from prison in some countries.

This was just the speeding offence and is not going away and we the tax payers will have to pay the cost, because he is our MP. GROW UP????

Your grasp of English law and justice seems to be lacking. This pair of idiots may be charged with "perverting the course of justice" relating to a speeding offence. If guilty a custodial sentence is the norm. The U.K. is civilized. Blood money payments are for uneducated countries inhabited by savages. Maybe more Christian missionaries and men like Cecil Rhodes should be sent forth from this once pleasant land.

              @SJ

So if I go out & kill a couple of people for a laugh, then have someone else take the blame for me.... that's ok in your book?

What's to stop me from doing it again?

The idea behind convicting the right person is to make sure they understand that actions have consequences. And trying to cover up what's happened is more serious, but then what would you expect from a politicion...
