    Breast implants

Following all the media about women having dodgy breast implants and the talk of the NHS having to fit the bill for removal. Surely it's up to the centres that carried out the procedures to stump up the cash.

The majority of breast jobs are carried out for false vanity and not medical reasons.

If I buy a dodgy car I don't expect the public to pick up the tab to get me a new one. If you're that sad you think a new pair of tits will make you a better catch maybe they should have taken insurance out.

The reason it will probably fall on the NHS to replace these dodgy implants, is because they (PIP) where given a license to sell them in the UK by the regulator, the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Authority. (government agency).
Ironically, one of the body's advising the government on this problem are, The British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, or better known as (BAAPS)

The NHS have been useing PIP for corrective surgery after women had mastectomy, can't be their fault and it sure aint vanity on their part, even the women who paid for them private, how would you feel if it was you or your family and had them done in the UK.

I agree people who have them implanted by the NHS should have them replaced by the NHS. If they pay to have them implanted privately (for the sake of vanity) they should pay to have them removed or replaced privately - the taxpayer shouldn't be picking up the bill, the clinic that fitted them should if anyone does.

Why is is that private clinics should be able to take the money and yet the NHS pick up for the f**k-ups that happen? This appears to be the case for anything that private clinics/hospitals do. Go in for a private operation, private hospital takes the money, if it goes wrong they get driven to an NHS hospital and the taxpayer picks up the tab. How is that fair?

the private clinics haven't f**ked up, they fitted an implant that a government agency had passed as safe, and licensed for sale in the UK.
the company that made the implants (PIP) made the f**k up.
seeing it was a french company, the french government should pay,
the same as the British government had to pay out ?28 million in compensation over the thalidomide scandal,
which was made by Distillers (Biochemicals) Ltd, a British company.

I also want to add, after talking to a doctor today about this,
if it wasn't for several private clinics, the UK government would have tried to sweep this under the carpet,
Andrew Lansley was coming out with statements that it only affected very few men and women, it was only when, Transform said it actually affected between 7 and 12% of patients,
confirmed by The Harley medical group, he had to change his tune.
now another private clinic, Nuffield Health, has already agreed to replace all PIP implants free of charge.
the private clinics have actually behaved very well over this matter.

It looks like the PIP implants were given the CE mark when they were assessed for use in humans. The ones tested had medical grade silicone. Following gaining the CE mark the manufacturers then started using dodgy silicone designed for bedding. If this is correct it should be the manufacturers that are held liable.

                          OFF TOPIC:-

Fitted a genuine OMP steering wheel the other day.
Dropped screw driver down side of passenger seat - swung on wheel to grab screwdriver - wheel flexed - dread to think what it does when cornering at 100 MPH - no CE mark anywhere

if we get in to that territory (not the NHS responsibility), we wouldn't treat any smokers who become ill, we pay national insurance, and the important word here being, insurance.
