?1 trolley fee at Manchester Airport and it?s non-refundable

One of the UK?s biggest airports will charge holidaymakers a ?1 fee to use their luggage trolleys ? and they won?t get it back on return.

A trolley shake-up at Manchester Airport will see passengers pay either a non-refundable ?1 or a ?2 coin or make a credit card payment to use a trolley.

The ?1.3m overhaul ? which will see lighter, easy-to-manoeuvre, GPS-enabled trolleys across all three airport terminals ? means that passengers are left to cover the bill.

Manchester Airport said that currently only 5% of passengers actually use the trolleys where they pay a pound and get their money back.

The luxury trolleys, due to replace the current fleet which dates back to 1995, have special vend machines and a small change facility. Credit card machines will also be available on-site.

But the new system, which comes into force on 10 April, has been met with criticism. Speaking with Yahoo! News on Wednesday, a spokesman from Manchester Airport said the decision has been very unpopular.

?We are giving people two months notice before the plans change. People are complaining that it should be free. It?s really the disbenefits of cheap air travel.
