There's always been various under-webs, some of them useful, some best avoided !

The most useful of the techy ones even have their own independant dommain name servers and a completely different domain hierarchy. No .com or .co.uk domains although there are .tv amd .sat domains on one of the alternates.

To access these systems you need to change your DNS to point into one of the alternates. Once you do so, you lose access to all normal internet domains.

Well I admit I was intrigued by the "deep web" after reading this thread, so I installed Tor.

Now what? The hidden wiki doesnt seem to have any information on it at all.... where should I be looking to search this sub web?

Figured it out finally. Had a look at the sites selling weed and stuff. Most interesting but not cheap!
Also looking at the political activist stuff, but its quite boring....

From whom ?

There is no completely effective way to hide yourself on the internet, even via a VPN. So many logs are kept these days of connections that even connections through tor/onions are trackable by those that have the correct technology (governments).

The only real reason to use a vpn is to prevent your provider from analysing your traffic
