A COUPLE who scooped a ?10.2million EuroMillions lottery jackpot are still claiming ?500 a month in BENEFITS 6? years later.

The payouts to Mick O'Shea, 73, were last night branded "barmy". But ex-builder Mick said: "We've nothing to hide. I'm entitled to it."

Money-bags Mick and his wife Jean, 72, scooped the life-changing jackpot in October 2005.

But despite having a mountain of cash in the bank, he is eligible for ?500 a month Disability Living Allowance because it is NOT means-tested.

On top of the money, Mick is given a shiny new car every three years under the Government's Motability scheme for disabled drivers.

The couple ? who were photographed spraying champagne when they celebrated their massive windfall ? have since splashed out on luxury holidays in Australia, Canada and Alaska.

They also had a five-bedroom mansion built in Co Kerry, Republic of Ireland, where Mick's family hails from.

But the canny pair use it only for holidays, because if they lived in Ireland ? where disability benefits ARE means-tested ? Mick would lose his income of ?6,000 a year.

seems factually incorrect to me , you either get the DLA mobility allowance , OR the motability car , but definitely NOT BOTH

anyone who has the car surrenders the mobility component and MOTABILITY claim it instead , which would leave him on the care component

should he give the car back its probably true that he would get around ?500 per month if he is on the high rates of both components that make up his DLA allowance

?500 he probably makes that in a day on interest. As for the car im sure he can afford any car he bloody wants.

This seriously needs to be looked in to it should be means tested especially when it comes to someone with this amount of money.

D.L.A is made up of 2 componant's @ramjet u get motability & care allowance, giving up the motabilty for a new car would only make up appproximately ?200 month as the higher rate care componant is about ?67 per week or ?268 a month, which seems to be about what he is claiming.
or adding extra money, to it his wife could claim a carer's allowance of ?55per week to look after him

Benefit fraud well his not done that because that is what the rules r would u turn 500 a month down,the the dole thing is a joke u loose your job go claim job seekers they dont help u find work they just looks at ways to stop paying u even if u have paid tax all your life and your from the uk but then if your a drugie or not from here and your english is bad they seem to leave u alone,they just say sign here and off u go. sad really.and i say this if u want dole money u should of paid tax for so many years first.then theres the training courses they offer u seems the ones u want so u can get a job they dont do the others they want u to do u no your never get a job from it like security training they send people on them with a criminal record u no how mad is that.disabled people sent on fork lift course and cscs, what a waste of money tax payers money makes me sick.if u going to put people on training atleast give them the ones they can get a job at the end of it and not waste money.

Yes I would turn it down if I had that sort of money. He will be making more than that a day on interest! It is just total greed and although it is not fraud it is morally wrong. I do not pay hundreds each week in tax and NI so that this fat ~~~~ can get money that he does not even need...... ooh wait I do. So although it might not be illegal I have every right to be pissed off at this pair of greedy fat rich slobs!

I agree with garry, to get these benefits is getting harder and harder, and it don't help that people who don't really need them claim and get them just cos they know how the system works, although dla, is not means tested a think when you have 10 million in the bank u should give it up
