i dont disagree m8 tax credit is just a benefit to the low paid to make it a little bit better than being out of workbut there was changes, family credit was very easy to fiddle, 5 wage slips and you got it for a year regardless of any change in income, and most were overpaid,
it was managed and administered by the DSS, so not many checks and balances,
Tax credits are administered by the inland revenue, so much easier to see who is and isn't entitled to it, and overpayment's are discovered and have to be paid back,
far less people can exploit the system now.
my point was the Tory's introduced these payments, and labour tightened up the system, and if the minimum wage was higher there would be no need for credits.
minimum wage should be higher tax free income should be bigger for lower earners but at the same time a lot of firms would hire less staff if they had to pay say ?10 an hour instead of ?6
im not taking sides there is always much talking and little change touch ups rebranding streamlining whatever most parties when in power go along with all the previous crap they strongly opposed
i will give you an example
osbourne and co cut cut cut cut
miliband it is wrong we need to spend spend spend
now lets see what happens when labour gets in power
will they reverse the tory cuts when back in power
will they ~~~~ they are quite happy for them to do the dirty work and the will all stay in place but at the same time while in opposition they will say its too much
