Petrol Stations using Automatic Number Plate Recognition to refuse fuel

At long last the Government is looking at a good method of screwing the scum that drive around with no insurance for their vehicles. They are looking at forcing the petrol companies to have Automatic Number Plate recognition that is linked to an insurance database which controls the fuel pumps.

When the scum try to fuel up, if the vehicle is not on the data base it will not allow fuel to be drawn and will record the user on CCTV then alert the Police.

I'm sure there may be initial problems but it's a possible solution. They could even link it to MOT's, Tax etc.

And REAL good if the dumb ~~~~ who types all the data into the comp at the insurance co has hit a wrong key, I had one the other day, the 3 last letters of the reg was CGG on the insurance doc (and in the database) it had CCG, so they would have been refused fuel !!

If it means they get compensation from whoever updates the insurance data base then it could even improve the data base. I'd rather the insurance cock up got sorted at the pump rather than following an accident. You just know the insurance company will deny all responsibility for incorrect details and refuse to pay out.

Yep agree there would be to many human errors for something like this to work.

I don't think Government should force private company's to enforce a law the Government can't enforce. Even if they do something like that what else will they use it for? forget to pay a ticket shut your fuel off. fall behind on your bills no fuel for you. I would be afraid of something like that.

That would be an even better idea. I know in Cananda if you have outstanding fines and refuse to pay them they withold your passport putting a dampner on you going out of the Country.

What about motor traders who are insured to drive any vehicle, my mate always gets pulled as the cars he drives are not but he is insured, also see the girls on the counter getting some grief, also what about petrol cans?

Exactly the way around it would be to buy and top up petrol cans, they could not put a stop to that.

Whos to stop anyone doing a runner the now, case of going in to the garage saying 'here the pump still has someone elses cost on it'

What I am getting at is it would be impossible to stop people buying petrol without a car as it has plenty of other uses.

So Joe buys petrol without his uninsured car with him, heads home or even parked close by to the garage tops himself up and hey presto Joe is on the move again ready to ~~~~ up others day.

Anybody can check whether their neighbours car is insured by simply going to this link and type in the registration number.If its not insured, pass the info to your local bobby
