Mile-Long queues at petrol pumps as panic buying continues

As motorists face price hikes, huge queues and even fights at petrol stations caused by the fear of strike action by fuel tanker drivers, a senior fire chief warns against stockpiling petrol.

Motorists are reporting massive queues at petrol stations across the country and staff overwhelmed by demand.

The Petrol Retailers Association, which represents around 5,500 garages across the UK, reported that sales of petrol were up 85 per cent to a high of 140.70p per litre and diesel 43 per cent to 146.98 per litre on Wednesday.

On Thursday morning, motorists spotted prices as high as 160p per litre of unleaded (at a garage on the A31); a mile-long queue forming on the A41 near Watford and another near Reading; angry exchanges between customers at several petrol stations in London; and staff cordoning off stations like at an Esso in Leatherhead, Surrey.

Halfords reported a 467 per cent rise in demand for jerry cans.

The government and tanker drivers have managed to boost sales for the oil companies no end. Prices have risen and they're managing to get people to panic buy fuel. Well done both...... not

Aye but we always seem to vote one party or another in, and in some cases vote for one party and end up with two

They're all a pack of retards.

There's no strike planned yet, and if they do strike there will be a weeks notice before hand & the military will be covering to ensure there are some deliveries.

So why are people panic buying now? ~~~~ing muppets!

Surely it's only a coincidence that MP's are advising drivers to top up now....handy pile of tax revenue just before the end of the accounting year.

The AA estimates the Chancellor raked in an additional ?32m in duty and VAT yesterday. Sales today appear to be higher.

We're at least 7-10 days away from a strike and all this panic buying is causing a situation. They wont need to go on strike soon, just keep threatening strike action and let the panicking people do the rest!

My local petrol station has introduced measures to curb panic buying.Customers are now strictly limited to three cold pasties per transaction.

It amazes me the money the drivers are on. It's basicaly a glorified Milk Tanker they're driving, with the exception that they can't smoke whilst doing the job and have to attach an Earth strap when loading and unloading the fuel. For this they get over ?45,000 per year. I've done the HAZMAT course for fuel and also explosives and it's not difficult.

They are complaining that the bosses are making them cut corners and work harder which affects Health and Safety. Sorry they can't speed as the trucks have speed limiters fitted and also Tachos. The Truck pumps are regulated so can only load and unload at a set speed and the distance between Stations doesn't change. They are tied to the European Driving hours so can't drive any more hours. So the only thing they can cut back on is sitting on their arse in the depot. My Father was a truck driver for over 50 years and was lucky to get ?20,000 per year.

                        It's all a big con.

The government puts up the price of petrol but the population doesn't like it so they force the tanker drivers into threatening to strike, the population of sheep flock to the pumps and fill up on the overpriced fuel they complained about, the government makes a shit load of money (just in time to pay for the crappy olympics). Then when things look like they are getting to a head they will announce a peace deal with the tanker drivers and knock a couple of pence per litre, then things will calm down again, and the public sheep will have forgotten all about the price hike and will still be happy paying way over the top for fuel.

The large prices people have been paying over the past few days is all down to forecourt owners profiteering.

Government ministers insight panic & cause a shortage of fuel. The garages with fuel left jack the price up by 30p-40p per litre. Max storage capacity is about 70,000 litres combined petrol & diesel. That's between ?21,000 & ?28,000 extra income for the owner, less tax... per delivery while people are panic buying.

Yeah i've sat in queues 3 times this week, bloody lemmings. Even the local Morrison's I use ran out of diesel yesterday. As Aleister says it's no coincidence really and good deflection on the part of the government, great profits for station owners, more profit for oil companies and the government get more revenue without any fallout. Fuel will go up as a result, more so if they strike - end result being that the government will get thier 3p rise and will be able to cancel the August rise and so will score a PR victory in the minds of the lemmings, with people saying how nice they are...

As for how much tanker drivers earn... what has that to do with anything? more Tory PR. Backto the 80's and the "me me me" society again where they set the public against each other and so create divisions. Why not compare MP's salaries where the only decisions they have to make is

Should i bother to go to work today? - I'm an MP and will get paid even if I don't turn up
How much will i make in expenses?
How can we tax people more?
Where to invade next? it doesn't matter that people die as a consequence
How can we deflect attention and make anyone who disagrees look like the villains?

                            Followed by

it's election time soon, need to cut tax so the lemmings will vote for us.....
